Nope. Y’all just playing the wrong games.

The “movie games” forumula is stale now.

Combat arena-traversal-set piece-repeat.

But plenty of other games have compelling and varied gameplay systems. Just gotta stop falling for the hype of these AAA “cinematic” games :smh:

When people stop equating graphics to gameplay we can move forward. I think studios spend more time trying to make things look pretty than they do working on good gameplay mechanics. Sure, graphics can feed gameplay, but if all you have is a pretty game, might as well go watch a movie.

Nah, but it might have for mainstream popular AAA. They follow a formula much like main stream pop music and movies.

Indie games the last 5 years have shown people just how much juice is left in 2d gaming.

3d gaming hasn't even come close to that level.

The problem is developers are handcuffed to a certain extent.

Sales:hula:gameplay

Sales mean multiplayer 20 plus hours and some deep introspective story.

Sometimes a simple story and great gameplay is all you need ala botw

Indie is where it's at. Mind you, a lot of indie titles are rough around the edges, but there's definitely innovation and concepts where you can see them getting it right with more money and a bigger team.

The industry needs to focus less about making ALL the money and go back to having pride in releasing COMPLETE bodies of work instead of cutting out content that they can sell as DLC. Sneaking in loot boxes, in-game advertising (FFXV), In-game purchases, etc. They've literally gone crazy with greed. Loot boxes are a particular problem in my opinion because it's more or less playground gambling

They legit tried telling gamers that there's no point or incentive to develop single-player action games because it's not as much of a cash cow as online AAA.

There needs to be a reset

Gaming hit it’s peak transitioning from mmo’s to rpg lite and gaas...as those games support the ridiculous scale that these games need to hit to begin to see a profit.

GAAS will also be gamings downfall because the scale and the amount of resources it takes to feed the beast is way too damn high :whoa:

VR and shyt like that are novelties and will never be accepted by the mass of non traditional gamers and will remain a fad just like weird ass controllers or whatever niche shyt you can think of.

The days of insular “innovative” games are over breh :francis:
What's GAAS?

Is in game advertising really that bad if they dont OD?

Like if Lucio comes into Overwatch 2 with a Pepsi tattoo are you going to return the game?

AI will continue to get better. That's the biggest thing that will affect game play.

One of the best parts of TLOU 2 for me was how smart the enemy AI was.

Not necessarily. There are instances where it can be pretty charming, and other instances where developers just threw it in there. A lot of people complained that last Final Fantasy (Cup Noodle) did this thinking it'll be a trend in the future
