Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
If you had braids past '10, you were damn near considered dusty. Jim Jones didn't help. We're back to the early 00's when it comes to hair. Everything goes in cycles.

Maybe in the south and parts of the Midwest. But LA, NY, Boston, Philly, Detroit and others never left braids alone.

When it comes to dusty the upkeep is what defines dusty to me

Chicago itself was late to the dread scene so I’m not sure what this means.
Young black men weren't having dreads before chief keef started having them. If you're around my age, you'd see the shift pre-Chicago movement - post-chicago movement.

idk what you talking about but New Jersey, Washington DC, Florida, Atlanta and the Bay Area had young men rocking dreads way before Chicago.

I'm not just talking about a few people having them, I'm talking about most people having them. If you pull up a random video of young black boys or men now, you'll find a much higher percentage of them with locs or twists. I couldn't do the same with such high percentage before that.

The cities i mentioned were places where most people did had them before Chicago. These cities actually moved on to less people having them now since the curly/nappy Afro look is becoming popular.

This deserves a platform for discussion. These cut prices have gotten ridiculous. For what I was paying a dub for a decade ago is $45 out here in Dallas. When I moved from Huntsville, AL, barbers bumped prices from $25 to $35. I don’t understand it
I been bought clippers and Andis t-outliners. Paid about $100 for both but I've got over 10 years of usage out of both. I use to go to the barbershop every blue moon to support my homie but when his prices went from $20 to $35 I couldn't justify it.

Like 2010 this was looked at as the standard

Cool-bald-fade-haircuts-for-Black-men-m.r.k.thebarber.jpg

Then around the midway point of the decade it became this(2015)

Now it seems like this is the present(2021)

Nvr grew my hair out but literally out of my friend group only three of us has low cuts. Everyone else has a fro, the jimmy butker, dreads, locks, or freeforns

I had dreads for over 15 years down to my damn hamstrings, and never once heard anyone distinguish between "dreads" and "locks" the way you just did :heh:
