This is an amazing topic forreal
This is a good topic. I'm surprised that it's not doing numbers

It will. Post it and they shall come.

I'll set it off something proper like with this:

There is so much to unpack in the dynamics and subtext of this movie but this, this scene right here was that ether because its so true. For every Vincent in the world there is a Max inside that he dares not accept, express and manifest. Why? Because society says "Keep your head down, fit in, do as expected and maybe, just maybe you can get what you intend toward the end of it. Maybe".

This started my exploration of the shadow aspects of Self in earnest and why we are often our worst enemies when all is said and done.

I wasn't sure what my religious beliefs exactly were prior but I was not feeling organized religion in many aspects, especially how it would largely contradict science and used very human worldly things to explain what is otherworldly. But this explanation of life really verbalized exactly what I felt and actually made sense.

One of the best movies about the alpha/beta dynamic

Interesting interpretation. This was one of the motivating forces behind the thread as we can all see the same thing and interpret in in many different ways.

For me it wasn't that but the links between the Authentic Self and the Man in a Mask that society threatens/coerces/manipulates most people into becoming.

Inside every cab driver is a hitman and the reverse is also true. The scene later where Foxx pretends to be the Cruise in the club and kills it and how Cruise doesn't shoot them at the end are great examples of the thematic interplay woven throughout the tale.

I think Arlington Road made me more cynical about trusting the media and even government about who is to really blame when there is a terrorist attack. I used to just trust whoever they named as the terrorist.

Shame made me more empathetic to sexual addiction. I think before I thought it was a made up disorder to escape accountability. Now I can see how it's a real thing that would be hard to treat.

The Big Short really woke me up about how markets are manipulated by insiders and the rich and everyone else ends up suffering for it.

The Florida Project pretty much burst my ideas about who lives in a resort and amusement park city and how they live.

American Beauty when I was a teenager, but I have some issues with that movie the older I have gotten
I recently paid American Beauty another watch and even after the controversy surrounding Kevin Spacey, Sam Mendes sure knows how to pack a punch with his melodramas. His films hit different than any other director I’ve watched, and I think another reason as to why is how spectacularly shot they are. I wish he had the opportunity doing more work with Conrad Hall.

I always look forward to joint works with Deakins, but Mendes was at his best (Road to Perdition, IMO) with Conrad Hall.

500 days of Summer made me examine how I was with romantic relationships.

Plus one of the greatest scenes of all time.

We have all done this to ourselves in the past. We have our expectations of how a night is going to go with the hope of it going in our "favor"

But we are generally disconnected from reality until you get that slap to the face and your "reality" crumbles into pieces because you were not paying attention.

To other people nor yourself.

Gave me my first glance on what NYC street life could be about. I think this film does an accurate job of portraying NYC Street kids and how city life forces kids to grow up much faster then they should. Although very sexually graphic, I remember watching this shyt over and over as a kid.

It's a French film about a guy who basically sinks into depression and withdraws from life. A NEET, essentially. The narration is powerful, the cinematography is incredible and the last 10 minutes has stuck with me since the first viewing. I watched it at a time when I was struggling with anxiety / depression and it made a huge impact
