Hard to pill to swallow: Martin Lawrence hasn’t been funny in over 25 years

Didnt he have stroke around the turn of the century or am I mistaken? I know that heat incident didnt help. Aint been the same physically or mentally since.

So much of his comedy came from his energy, that naturally dips as you age.

Martin had a lot of issues - i mean dude had a manic episode on the street...talking about ppl were trying to kill him, fight the power, all that shyt.. brandishing a gun...so you know hes on some "meds"..on top of having that heat stroke

thats the reason why dude kinda lost the physical spark that made him so great in the 90s where he could do no wrong...big part of his comedy was the fact dude was so animated...he gained weight and it lost something

from the time he has shown sparks of it but not enough of it...that being said welcome home roscoe jenkins is a very underrated ass movie from him in my opinion and his role in that beach bum movie with him as captain wack got some laughs out of me

Yes, they're all pretty bad but the bolded ones have a few redeeming moments that makes them standout .

He had 2 Public meltdowns. One in early 96 and then again in 99/00. I don’t know when he got put on meds but he was never the same after those two incidents.

I thought the bolded were all decent to good/funny movies, while Life is an absolute classic. The others I’ve never watched besides Wild Hogs, which was better than I thought it would be.

Although, National Security wasn’t that bad though. Blue Streak was his last one of one to me. Add Life to that as well. Big Momma’s House was just cool.

But if Martin is on the stuff they give to bipolar people, that would explain a lot. I used to know this cat who got on that medicine. Before the meds, he was always over the top, funny, the life of the party. Then he had a bad episode and got on the meds, and he was never the same. He was always depressed and low energy.

Maybe he was difficult to deal with or something, but they basically made him a shell of his forner self.

Richard Pryor, Dave Chappelle, even Kanye went thru mental breakdowns from drugs or whatever, and even they didn't get impacted like Martin did. It's like the light got sucked out of him.

On the flipside, I think Martin is legitimately crazy but was able to channel it properly. Maybe it's anti-depressant drugs or maybe it was the stroke.

Sad bc he was the new Eddie and even surpassed Eddie IMO. Glad breh still has alot of money though and is still around.
