343 Industries also talked to IGN about a Weekend Social playlist that will feature a game mode voted on by the community via Halo Waypoint and the Halo Channel and will feature bonus XP and REQ points. They plan to release this playlist post-launch once everyone has settled into the game. If these weekend playlists prove to be popular, there is a chance they will be made into their own playlist.
- Eden
- Regret
- The Rig
- Plaza
- Orion
- Pegasus
If you’re a fan of Team Doubles or Team Snipers, it is up to you to vote for these gametypes on the Halo Channel and/or Halo Waypoint when they show up so you can show 343 Industries that you want them to be permanent.
As for Big Team Battle, Quinn DelHoyo told IGN when it launches a few weeks after Halo 5: Guardians releases, it will have its own dedicated playlist under Arena and will have maps built for Big Team Battle rather than rehashed 4v4/Warzone maps.
Throughout the past year, 343 Industries have actively talked about four game modes for Arena – Slayer, Capture the Flag, Strongholds and Breakout.
That’s great, they’ve made two new game modes and they’ve decided to put the focus on them when it came to their press releases and interviews relating to the games. Surely that means other game modes like Oddball and King of the Hill would be there as well, right? Nope. Today, 343 Industries revealed the day one lineup for playlists and confirmed what most of us had feared for a while.

When Halo 5: Guardians launches later this month, Arena will only ship with four game modes which I previously mentioned – Slayer, Capture the Flag, Strongholds and Breakout. Josh Holmes was recently asked if older gametypes would be part of their post-launch content plans and this is his reply:

So to put it into perspective for you, here’s all the gametypes that won’t be in Halo 5: Guardians when we get our hands on it it later this month:
- Oddball
- King of the Hill
- Extraction
- Infection
- VIP
- Headhunter
- Juggernaut
- Assault
- Regicide
- Grifball
- Race
- Stockpile
So while Halo 5: Guardians will eventually introduce some gametypes as post-launch content, we don’t actually know which ones will be returning, if they ever do. As always, we’ll keep you updated on the latest Halo 5: Guardians news when it becomes available.
