haley williams [whoever that is] is right--:yeshrug:...miley is appropriating the creative expression [culture] of a group for her own sake without acknowledgement...even if you think miley recent [black..faux black] behavior is vulgar and meretricious it still has helped her brand...

Not acting black :troll:What's black culture? :troll: . In another thread nikkas was talking about how twerking came from Africa, now they're distancing themselves from the shyt as if it has no black roots. Consistency is all I ask for. Then there was the thread about ABC's crack journalism and black twitters response. Now twerking isn't black culture at all :what:. The shyt doesn't work both ways. If it ain't black, black people should feel no type of way about white people butchering it.

Yeah nikkas actin real stupid and naive in this thread. shyt is hilarious.

Are we really going to dumb down the conversation to this level and play stupid?

Miley Cyrus is CLEARLY making a very painfully obvious attempt at appropriating portions of african american youth culture...no the entirety of black culture doesn't revolve around "twerking 24/7" (not anymore than the entirety of specific latin cultures revolve around salsa music or sensual latin dances), but the segment that is...the segment that anybody in tuned enough with contemporary black youth culture to even spend a minute of their time posting in THIS form is well familiar with...Miley is pretty shamelessly attempting to wear as a costume of "otherness" in a transparent effort to shed her Disney Channel image...it appears for anybody with an iota of sense, to be an concerted effort on the part of her (and her handlers) and the label in charge of her music

To her credit...or whatever credit you can assign to such things...she has flat out said as much

Had no idea she actually said that, jesus.

She's right, but of course people are gonna listen to this white girl Hayley say this shyt rather than a Janelle Monae or something. People only listen when it comes from a white person's mouf.

You're quickly turnin into one of da best posters(female OR male) on dis site yo. Da self awareness n common sense is really refreshin round dese parts like a mufukka mane. :wtf: :salute:

Making music that feels Black =/= "acting Black" or "stealing Black culture". "Acting Black" is merely a euphemism for someone acting like a stereotypical Black person. I don't really see how "twerking" or working with and hanging with Hip Hop producers and aritsts is equivalent to acting Black. Since Hip Hop is still a dominant force in the music industry, artists like Miley see it as an easy route to shed the Disney image and sell records. Artists have been doing the same thing Miley's doing since the 90's.

They've been doing it for a HELL of lot longer than just the fukking 90's...but I don't even have the patience or the will to even go into it with you dudes anymore...fukk it, parse it and call it whatever you want...Miley's just having fun out there

you guys talk about twerking as if its some cornerstone of black culture. where was your outrage for snoop when he appropriated rastafari culture to sell more records or when lil wayne appropriated LA gang culture.

black culture is not some monolithic being that encompasses the many varieties of the black experience. the only people that should be allowed to be madeat miley cyrus are ratchet women. another gimmick to sell records

the point still stands no matter what label [hiphop..black..ratchet..etc] you put on it...miley is not using her own culture...it all feels minstrel show-ish to me...
