:martin: You don't telling me nothing I don't already know. The point is you can get in close and trade with Patterson. Rocky was the type to throw anywhere and keep coming forward. He would probably be forced to box on the outside

Obviously I am telling you something if you're gonna compare the Pete fight to a fight with Rock where Patterson had to get inside to get his punches off against a much bigger man.

:francis: The original point is that Patterson wasn't untouchable. If Pete can knock him down, you really don't think Rocky can? :mjlol:

He could but was it likely with his size & skillset? Probably not. I could see Rock getting KO'ed if they fought prime for prime

2 of them were prime great light heavyweight fighters & one was the second oldest heavyweight to win a title. Good wins but prime for prime Charles would eat Rock alive if they were the same size
:martin: the main knock against Rocky was that his championship run was against past prime champions, but that was the state of the Heavyweight division.

:francis:Ezzard Charles, Jersey Joe Walcott, and Archie Moore. All three are Hall of Famers

congratulations you looked up wikipedia, I'm talking on the espn talking heads and people who bring up marcinao

all those guys were passed their prime, Walcott was 39, after becoming the oldest heavyweight champ ever in that era at 37

Ezzard Charles started middleweight lmao and was 35 and washed up, he wasn't already many fights removed from when he lost his heavyweight championship

archie moore, are you kidding me, he started at middleweight and was 40 years old when he fought marcion, with damn near 200 hundreds fights already

like I said Rocky's resume is trash, which is why nobody calls him a great heavyweight

people nitpick Floyd's resume to death when he's fought guys younger and bigger than him consistently throughout the years

giving rocky credit for those wins is like giving kovalev credit for beating a 50 year old hopkins

right back at you, that's what get for dropping names not knowing anything about the historically context
:childplease:
Get all the way the fukk out of here with that :camby:

All I did was study boxing from the bare-fisted era to the modern era when I was boxing.

:ohlawd: my fight collection in the early 2000s before my hard drive died :to:

Patterson could punch in combinations pretty well. He could've stopped him to me. His hand speed for a heavyweight was really good
He was the fastest heavyweight no doubt. I personally think he could've given Ali a closer fight (first meeting) if he was in his prime (I think Patterson complained about his back giving him problems, and I think Cus was already out of the picture)
