It seems that citing Jason Whitlock is a means of conducting research on the black community for wack sports writers.

That's what really cracks me up about it, Costas just assumes that shytlock is qualified to speak on such things.

My Pops Forever RIP
basketball wives gets blasted on twitter for they ignorance, it makes all black woman look bad

mob wives, jersey shore etc. characters are treated like pop divas.

thats the real issue

Actually you'd be surprised. Italians HATE Jersey Shore and Mob Wives and some companies refuse to promote their products while their shows are on.

He said it on the daily show w/jon stewart.

yeah, isolate the gun culture to just black people and rap.:beli:

I despise this guy.
Bob Costas is using his status as a popular sports newscaster to go on his soapbox and give his opinion. Now, he can give his opinion on stuff because this is America and all, but he's also going to alientate people too.

Are guns really glorified in hip-hop culture? I think Bob Costas is mixing in gang culture and low-income crime with hip-hop and the two are not directly related. It's like Criss-Cross were two dudes who wore their shirts backward and performed hip-hop music. Nothing to do with guns. I mean, yes, there is hardcore rap that talks about shooting cops but that's not hip-hop.

:manny: it doesn't matter. how many rappers have shot up schools or killed dozens of children with an AK?
It's always the nerdy outcast white kid who does. they prolly listen to grunge metal or whatever.

Next time kanye walks into a school with a pistol like :yeshrug: they might be able to having some credibility.

But as long as it's some suburbon white kid laughing maniacally like :bryan: they gonna have to find another excuse.

Personal i think is cause they don't beat their kids enough. :ld:

If the words "fukk you Mom!" have ever come out of your mouth you are prolly the type of person who didn't get enough spankings and is capable of shooting up a kindergarden.

Word.

It's like who did the mass shooting in Newtown, CT? A middle-class white dude.

Who did the mass shooting in Aurora, CO movie theater? A middle-class white dude.

Who did the shootings involving Congresswoman Gifford? A white dude.

Who did the mass shooting in Virginia Tech? A middle-class Asian dude.

Who did the mass shootings in Columbine High School, Two middle-class white dudes.

Huh? Not one of those bytches was wearing hip-hop culture clothing. And all y'all know what hip-hop culture clothing is.
All had mental problems though. So maybe Bob Costas should blame middle-class white people for gun crime?

Ehh you had me up to here.

It is hip hop. But it's hip hop the way emo music is Rock music, the way death metal is Rock music as well.

Don't shy away from it. Hardcore rap is a sub-genre of the music aspect of hip hop the same way that other lesser known or not as popular or mainstream friendly genres of Rock are part of Rock music.

The problem is when America once again tries to make hip hop or any aspect of it the scapegoat of American societal ills. It's lazy and ignorant and fukk Bob Costas for doing this. It's really disgusting.

nobody is saying he's wrong. People are just pointing out that he singles out hip hop when all cultures glorify guns.

thats akin to Dan Patrick saying that black people get guns b/c of culture while while insinuating that white people get them for protection n hunting.

10-4. I guess I meant hardcore rap is not mainstream hip-hop or is the main sub-genre of hip-hop music.

I respect Bob Costas but his view on hip-hop is outdated, had this been maybe 2005, he would've been right but now I'm not sure if gunplay is in the top 5 of hip-hop topics anymore.

Yeah, it's bugged out. I get the dismissive reaction to Costas, because highlighting black cultural pathology is an old, dishonest game. But now we're fronting like hip hop doesn't bathe itself in guns? fukk, even corny ass motherfukkers like that emu-faced doofus drake reserve a bar here and there about catching a body or pulling out steel.

This is like listening to hardcore republicans excuse all the hypocrisy of their party because they view giving any ground at all as some philosophical disaster.

Violence, guns, and hyper-masculinity aren't dominant themes of mainstream rap anymore? Really?

Bolded are albums that have lyrics glorifying guns... It might not be as blatant as 1993. But no other genre comes even close..Guns are more "hip hop" than breakdancing and graffiti at this point.. To deny that is dishonest...
