This idea was pushed by Milton Friedman... not exactly a socialist.

Capitalism attempts to put a value on your worth.

I think if everyone is working and benefiting the community, then that is the value. Is the Doctor more valuable than the person that makes the surgical tools he uses? Is a business owner more valuable than the people working for him/her? No, because they all depend on each other in some way. The doctor can't make surgical tools and the business owner cannot expect to expand his business AND run it himself. People benefit the community by working, not sitting around doing nothing.

I have a hard time after reading this believing you actually know what Capitalism is.

It's sad. Most of the First world allows their workers to work 4-6 hr workdays with siestas and tons of vacation time and yet, they still are productive societies. Here in America, we are so inane and brainwashed that we think having certain things put in place to improve out quality of life are "evil, socialist programs intended to destroy us." The 1% laughing at us while we work our 50 hrs jobs, waking up at inhumane hours, while doing work that isn't really that meaningful... I get it, work slave hours for slave wages instead of having the time to actually THINK and CREATE things that would forward society. The Renaissance was possible because humans didn't have to expend all their time farming fields. It's funny and quite telling that most of the jobs being created to replace the jobs that were lost in the recession are minimum wage. Where is that money going? I mean the indexes are at an all-time high and Wall Street is in another golden age. If you can't see through what is going on....

The people receiving the benefits of the negative income tax still have to work, but yes even THAT is atleast "socialistic" regardless of WHO advocated it. Ayn Rand could of proposed it for all I care.

The idea proposed by the Swiss is just outright Socialism. I'm making no stretches here.

Lastly, I don't care what you think of me. Just stick to the thread, bro.

You are a pea brain and I'm going to keep reminding you of that.

If there is unemployment in Switzerland at 3%, and it is 7.8% in America, which country has a larger percentage of the population recieving money for not working? It's clearly America, therefore America is more socialist because less people are working and more people are receiving welfare/foodstamps/unemployment. See how stupid your logic is? When you don't understand what socialism is, you can make all kinds of accusations that are not based in fact or reality.

fukk No. Everyone should work. It's all good if you want to give people a guaranteed income but everyone should be productive in the society.

Nah. No one has an obligation to work or be productive for anyone if they choose so. It's their life.

The society will fail....the incentive to work is gone

Bullshyt. Humans are by nature productive, not lazy creatures. Northern European countries have been vastly Socialist for a long time and people have been claiming they will fail, and yet here we are in 2013...

But I guess we could prop up the great America where we have third world literacy rates, imprison more humans than any other country, have 99 % of our wealth in 1% of the people's hands, and bailout conglomerates and white collar criminals. Great society.

America is the most powerful nation on earth because the less productive are left behind....The is idea that someone gets a check for doing nothing will even drive this country to the point on serious social unrest when people start demanding raises

I don't know why people hate capitalism

Capitalism is great for any sector of the economy except those that you wouldn't want people to put profits over whatever it is they provide.

I don't want the private industry to be the main driving force behind education, healthcare, prisons, weapons, or infrastructure. All elections should be publicly funded so that no candidate is getting 50x the other candidate.

You want to make your money? The market is still free and fair in just about every other industry except those that decide the mental/ physical health of it's citizens.

America was the most powerful nation 15 years ago and has been trending downward.

You do realize people will still work jobs and get payed accordingly for their work? I doubt anyone in Switzerland will complain as they will be too busy taking month long vacations, hour long siestas, smoking legal marijuana, getting extremely cheap education, and traveling the world. When I lived in NY, Swedes would come over and work in NY for a few months JUST FOR FUN (they were actually able to save their paychecks that they earned in Switzerland) and to experience America before going back home to a relatively enjoyable life.

This radical approach won't work in here in a country of over 300 million.

Of course you can't do it exactly how Northern European countries go about it, but the approach to subsidizing these industries can work. FDR has shown as much when he enacted the New Deal.

The best indicator will be time. Watch as us Americans keep sliding into minimum wage jobs (replacing livable wage jobs), while Wall Street and their indexed reach all time highs. I guarantee, Swedes will enjoy a significantly better life than 99% of Americans, 10 years from now. Shyt, they already do.

Best behavior is to let unproductive bums rot in the streets. If they don't learn that way, they will never learn.
