Here is my attempt at logic...
However, FIRST, we have to truly realize what universe this is in.
I do think that a strong argument can be made that SOA & Ray Donovan are live action parts of the
Grand Theft Auto universe.
And we know that the GTA Universe has an exaggerated but somewhat real (with respect to cartoonish action) logic system.
Now that we know what universe it lives in, we can apply a loose logic to it.
First issue:
"Yellow kills brown, brown kills white, white kills yellow, rinse, repeat, and there is peace again"
It seems ridiculous right? However, if we apply jail politics, shyt like this happens all of the time. You think Aryan Brotherhood and crips/bloods aren't killing each other in September and having peace in November?
It happens. Now that we can agree to that, understand that, of the characters we are following on the show, 90% of them have spent time in jail/prison.
It is the same thing, and after you apply
GTA universe rules, it is in the realm of possibility that Samcro could possibly be in the midst of a race war on Tuesday at 8am and by evening, everyone is sitting at a picnic table drinking beer from tap with porn stars on their laps.
"Don't worry, you didn't die in vain, after you're body is found, we'll have a truce & you'll be forgotten!"
Second issue:
"Soooo.... Jax knows Gemma conspired with Clay to kill his father yet he still trusts her?!"
Well, I mean, a woman you can be close to and feel some type of identifying personality traits don't exactly grown on trees in the SOA world. What else does he have? This is a man who had trusted advisers that in one way or another, have conspired against him at some point, they are killers, they are liars but...they are
SOA family.
From a human perspective, we can understand an individual who, especially after his wife died, can't be choosy about who he trusts. You would go crazy if you decided you couldn't trust anybody so you won't confide in them. Where would that leave Jax? I mean...honestly... he wouldn't have a great barometer to apply the "trustworthiness award" to. Even the most human person on the show, Tara, was conspiring against him numerous times.
"See that in the distance, son? That's a mother's love...and the corpses of the people you love."
Third Issue:
"Okay brothers, there is a federal agent in the coffee shop and a state trooper on patrol across the street... How do we take this snitch out? Get the AK47, but take your patches off."
Okay... In the real world, SOA would have been brought up on domestic terrorism charges...before Jax turned 10. However, remember the universe we are in, GTA. Someone joked that all SOA needed to do after a mass murder is
ride around the block 4 times until the 5 stars went down. Technically, that is exactly what happens.
As long as you come to terms with that, the show is enjoyable. Anyone looking for "The Wire, type realism (minus the all-drugs legal zone) are expecting too much and are just trying to be cool by pointing out "
look how unrealistic this show is! high five me!"
"Me, trying to be cool, pssht. But check out my new expensive gucci belt, and Sons of Anarchy is SO FAKE."
Chill with that and enjoy is like you'd enjoy Walking dead.
One thing we need to discuss though...
So... Gemma tips you off about who
MAY have killed Tara. SO you have him kidnapped... Okay, makes sense. Then, you have him tied up...and gagged. And you keep the gag on him throughout the torture without asking him the reason for the murder? So you're telling me that the man who you think took the order to kill your family
"I know you were just taking orders..." is allowed to be tortured without telling why he did it!?
In both the GTA world and SOA, people LOVE giving diatribes before they are killed, however, this triad is allowed to NOT spill his guts to atleast give Jax closure? Why?
THAT is bad writing...
Because it is the one thing that happened this episode that just doesn't fit with even GTA/SOA logic. No way Jax doesn't allow the man to say something. Unless...
Sutter is a genius writer & wants us to see the painful fear of doubt that Jax has when, even though he doesn't say it, Jax decides to not allow the man to speak because he knows what he'll say. Jax somewhat knows that this guy didn't do it, but as long as it isn't put blatantly into his face, he can put it to the back of his mind to allow him to function. Imagine the turmoil that it would cause if Jax allowed the guy to talk & the guy was able to prove that he didn't do the murder? Like him showing Jax he wasn't even in the country or was locked up at the time.
Jax kind of knows he didn't do it. But much like a nasty person who sees his dikk turn green after going in raw w/ a hooker, he decides not to get tested because "hmm...the swelling is down, I'm clean."
"What are you saying?"
"mmph mmph mmph"
"Yea, that's a confession"
Either way, Gemma is a demon.
