That's what I'm thinking. Fenced yard. There is a mini shed where the landlord keeps the lawnmower, but I'd need a ramp to wheel it in and out, they're heave as hell. Went down the research rabbit hole, I want a Kamado Joe. I'm debating buying the house, so I'm either staying for the foreseeable future or moving. Trying to wait until I figure that out, but I'm getting the itch. Should have stayed out of this thread
There's hundreds of ways to keep it safe.
You can chain it up to your house. Bury a stake deep into the ground and have it chained to the stake. Dig a small hole, fill it with cement, put a stake in it, once the cement dries, fill the hole (put dirt on it) and attach the grill to the stake.
I mean, if anyone is going to idk...drive into your backyard and put your grill on their truck and drive off, ripping the stake out of the ground or tearing a piece off your house, it really doesn't matter where you live or what "security" you have, they're going to get it at that point.
If anything someone might try you, and once they see it's staked down or chained up just move on. People steal easy shyt, not heavy shyt, they aren't going to take time and undo locks and cut chains and haul shyt, dig holes and all that. Not for a grill. Just like stealing cars and breaking into houses and garages, people aren't walking around with lock pick sets. They just twist the knobs or lift the handles, or break a window. First time a light comes on whether yours or a neighbor's, they'll run. A gang of fools ain't gonna run up in your spot with glocks with switches and a draco like "gimme your kamado!!!!" "I want that green egg!!!"
