Their shifting alliances are absolutely bizarre. There are people who have literally become allies with the right because they're so obsessively anti-Muslim, and now the right is gonna go pro-Muslim on them?

I have said repeatedly in the past, though, that the extremist Muslims, extremist Christians, extremist Hindus, and extremist Atheists are basically all the exact same people just raised in different environments.

extremist atheists? :rudy:

I agree with the rest of what you said.

i'm guessing he wants to be fair and balanced.

Extremist atheists killed more people in the 20th century than all other religious extremism combined.

Look at Pol Pot's purges of Buddhists and Christians - he makes Isis look like a bunch of Boy Scouts. Not to mention Mao and his successors in China, Vietnam, the Soviet Union especially under Stalin, North Korea, Albania, Yugoslavia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and Cuba, all of which practiced ideological extremism every bit as bad as religious extremism, which depending on the country included explicit discrimination based on faith, prison camps, labor camps, forced institutionalization in mental hospitals, reeducation camps, torture, and mass killings.

Even when you get away from the outright murderous rulers, just the way that certain extremists within the movement carry themselves is little different from the worst of religious belief. Look at the "New Atheists" like Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins, and Sam Harris, and how even many of their fellow atheists say their methods and conclusions are unwarranted and inappropriate. They demonstrate irrational bias against people of religious belief, make repeated bad faith arguments, and occasional go so far as extremist solutions (such as Sam Harris's support for war on Muslims and his statement that some beliefs are so bad we should consider killing people who hold them).

And of course we could including this board, where there are certain hard-core atheists who argue just as irrationally and with just as much ignorance as some of the irrational religious believers do.

I wish all people, including atheists, would take more time to realize how much their beliefs are influenced by their environment and how much they have in common with people who have very similar thought patterns and modes of operating but happen to have developed in a different situation.

Andrew Tate Was Arrested After Adin Ross Blabbed About His Escape Plans

The influencer read Tate's messages about his plans to "leave Romania and never [come] back" out loud on a Kick stream last week

MARCH 12, 2024

British-US former professional kickboxer and controversial influencer Andrew Tate (C) is led by police officers into the Court of Appeal building in Bucharest, Romania on March 12, 2024, following his and his brother's arrest over UK sex offence charges. Romanian authorities said in a statement that they executed two European arrest warrants issued by the UK judicial authorities for the committing of sexual offences, of exploitation of persons on the territory of the UK. The influencer Andrew Tate and his brother, Tristan Tate, were arrested by Romanian authorities on Monday on U.K. charges based on a tip that they had planned to flee Romania — information that was revealed on a Kick livestream by their friend and fellow “alpha male” streamer, Adin Ross, Rolling Stone has confirmed.

According to a legal representative for McCue Law, the firm representing four British women accusing Tate of rape and sexual assault, U.K. judicial authorities issued a warrant for their arrests and extradition on sexual abuse charges after “we were informed by one of our contacts that an associate of Tate ( Adin Ross) had discussed Tate’s intention to flee during a video on the gaming and livestreaming platform Kick.”

In the clip viewed by Rolling Stone, Ross appears to be reading direct messages from Tate. “Andrew had hit me up. He said, ‘Hey, I’m gonna be leaving Romania soon and probably never coming back. If you want to come over and do a week of long streams and content before I leave, I think it’ll be big. And it’s never’ — I’m sorry, he said, ‘It’s basically now or never,'” he read.

Ross goes on to ask fans on his stream whether they would be interested in seeing content featuring him and Tate, saying, “Again, guys, it might be the last time we ever do this. So it’s kinda like, we gotta take advantage of it now. Because hey, it’s basically, it’s basically like that.”

A spokesperson for the Tates tells Rolling Stone, “we unequivocally deny any accusations that Andrew or Tristan Tate intends to abscond from Romania to evade the judicial proceedings,” saying that Ross “misconstrue[d] Andrew’s message to him.”

A rep for Ross did not immediately return a request for comment.

A highly controversial 23-year-old streamer from Florida, Ross was permanently banned from Twitch in February 2023 for promoting “hateful conduct” after posting uncensored racist and antisemitic comments from his fans. He has been a longtime defender of the brothers, proclaiming their innocence on social media following their 2022 Romania arrest and detainment on separate charges of rape, trafficking, and forming an organized group to exploit women. Prior to their Tuesday arrest, they were awaiting trial in Romania and had been ordered by judges not to flee the county and its surrounding area.

When reached for comment, a representative for Tate tells Rolling Stone that a Romanian court approved the request for extradition but postponed it until after the Romanian trial is over. “We appreciate the Bucharest Court of Appeal’s decision to postpone the extradition of Andrew and Tristan Tate,” Eugen Vidineac, counsel for the defendants, said in a statement. “This ruling provides an opportunity for the brothers to participate fully in their defense and for the legal process to proceed in a transparent manner.”

A spokesperson for the Tates also denied any accusations that Andrew or Tristan Tate intended to abscond from Romania to evade the judicial proceedings. “Our clients are fully committed to actively participating in the legal process and defending their reputation. We believe this rumor has originated from a popular online influencer who misconstrued a text message from our clients while streaming live. There is simply no truth to it.”

Tate is currently facing civil charges brought by four women in the United Kingdom who allege the former kickboxer and influencer sexually and physically assaulted them in 2014 and 2015. The charges were subject to a police investigation that was dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in 2019 due to lack of evidence.

According to McCue Law, the recent U.K. warrant stems from sexual abuse claims that are unrelated to the civil complaint. “As far as we understand it, these are new allegations against both Andrew and Tristan which relate to the same time period as our clients’ complaints,” a representative tells Rolling Stone.

The anti-intellectualism of your comeback demonstrated the exact point I was making. If you want to prove me wrong, then respond in a manner different than they do when their cohort is criticized. Use actual historical facts, approached as objectively as possible, with room for admittance that your ideological allies have not been without fault.

I provided a basis for my statement with quite a bit of explicit detail. While it may be uncomfortable and inconvenient, some of the most horrific massacres of the 20th century were undertaken by extreme ideological atheists. Not just rulers who happened to be casually atheist, but rulers who prided their atheism as a driving force behind many of their purges and rationale for violence. Pol Pot in Cambodia, Mao and others in China, and Stalin and others in USSR are the clearest examples, but there were additional brutal ideological atheist rulers in Europe and Asia as well and to a lesser degree some pretty ugly actions in Latin America and Africa.

WTF are you talking about? None of that is pertinent to the opinions I expressed, which was:

1) Extremist atheists often think and act in a manner quite similar to religious extremists, and likely would have much in common with them outside of the accident of the ideology they were conditioned into by their circumstances.

2) Extremist atheist leaders collaboratively were responsible for more deaths in the 20th century than extremists of other religions. No one is competing with Mao and the other Chinese leaders, Stalin and the other USSR leaders, Pol Pot, the North Korean clan, and the rest of them. The USA has certainly also been responsible for a decent amount of death in the 20th century, but it wasn't religious extremists who were driving those policies, it was corporate stooges who didn't give a shyt about religion like that.

How many major 20th-century conflicts would you say were the result of Islamic extremism? How many major 20th-century conflicts were the result of Christian extremism? How many major 20th-century conflicts were the result of Jewish extremism? How many major 20th-century conflicts were the result of Hindu extremism? Even defining very loosely (including say Iran-Iraq, the partition of India, everything related to Israel), you ain't going to get to the combined Stalin/Mao/Pol Pot/etc. numbers.

And calling me a "liberal", pejoratively, is just weird. I'm further to the left than you are.

Thank god I didn't make any of those claims. I have never denied that the religious right in America is a bunch of a$$holes or that extremist atheists in America have ever had more power than them (or any significant power at all, for that matter). But the world is bigger than America.
