They identify with the Achaemenid empire and hate Greece. You nikkas know exactly what I means but want to be pedantic to get jokes off.

Turks are from Central Asia, not Iran. They don’t speak an Indo European language. And they didn’t gain consolidate control over Anatolia until 1071 CE. Over 1000 years from the fall of the Achaeminids to Alexander the Macedon.

In fact, the Ottoman Turks styled themselves successors to the Roman Empire and the Byzantines/Eastern Roman Empire.

Should I hold history lectures on the Coli? The misinformation is embarrassing!

Turkey and Greece may go at it again over islands in the Aegean Sea. Cyprus has been disputed by both nations and they went to war over it in the 70's. Cyprus has a DMZ like no man's land that separates the Turkish North and Greek South. Then there are two patches of land on the Southern shores that are occupied by...England, because England gonna England.

Thanks for explaining this. I dealt with some fine Turkish Cypriot ladies in the past but never cared enough to ask what their history with Greece was.

My wife got a Tatarian friend/co-worker from Russia :wow:

Apparently many are white/Slavic mixed with Mongolian and Middle Eastern culturally and genetically, many of them are also Muslim.

A lot of the Russian figure skaters and gymnasts are actually Tatarian.

In fact that whole region of Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, etc. mixes a lot of lineages.

Don't know what that gotta do with all this, but that's basically what I know about Turks. :heh:

Breh, there's this Vietnamese lady who is fluent in Russian at my company.

shyt is a trip: not-so-great English, flips to twangy Vietnamese, then to a hard Russian accent in the same day when we were all in the office. Her English may not be great, but when I ask other people her other two languages are 100 (got a few Russians at my company and they said it's common).

Apparently there's a big Vietnamese population in the Czech Republic as well (a lot of her family lives there).

Edit: looked it up, Nguyen is the 9th most common last name in that entire country.
