What does leftism have to do with gas prices? The leftist solution would be to nationalize the industry while they prioritize public transportation and building infrastructure for clean energy transportation. The US government has not operated on any 'far left' ideals, and yet you're out here blaming the left instead of either of the two major right wing parties who run this country.

i see republicans talking about drilling and bringing gas down; i see democrats saying we're lucky that high gas prices are ushering in electric vehicles

and the far left is pretty open about the idea that anyone who has a problem with our border being rushed by is a racist. according to them, you aren't allowed to take issue with illegal immigration, at all. the same people bytching about housing costs, but never get around to where all these illegals actually... go to live

If you choose to follow right wing narratives of whats going on in the world, that is completely on you, not the left.

Drilling doesn't do jack shyt to bring gas down. Oil companies were sitting on numerous oil leases that they hadn't been touching because it wasn't economically advantageous to do so, now that prices are higher they can go back to them but it takes years to get the oil out and isn't nearly enough volume to bring down the global price of a barrel of oil. Even at this very moment the Saudis and others are sitting on plenty of additional volume, far more than we could add, but are unwilling to release it because to them depressing prices would be hustling backwards.

Personally, I would prefer far higher oil prices as cheap oil is literally destroying the world. But that doesn't have jack shyt to do with gas prices now because neither I nor anyone who thinks like me has the slightest control over the current gas prices.

Corporations want prices to be high because profits will be high. Leftists want prices to be high to depress use. It's incredibly naïve to blame the 2nd of those two, who have no power, rather than the 1st, who actually control the current situation.

If you actually spent ANY time investigating this issue you'd know that our policies in Central America over the last 40 years are what drives the rush, not our policies here. Obama set records in the # of deportations during his presidency, Biden this year is spending more on ICE than at any other time in history. Yet the migrants still come. The average person doesn't want to leave their family, undertake a dangerous journey over thousands of miles across hostile nations, and risk their life crossing a river and desert only to enter a racist nation and a situation of constant legal threat. They only do that when their home situation is untenable. US policy has fukking wrecked those countries and no amount of ICE meanness fixes that, at most it only delays/displaces the issue.

No matter how much you dislike the far left position on immigration, it has nothing to do with the current immigration situation. Ronald fukking Reagan gave amnesty to millions more illegal immigrants (and Bush wanted to) than any leftist has ever been able to dream of.

I've got nothing but smoke for Biden and his whole brand of Neo-Liberalism, but he has tried a number of things, as ineffectual as they were. He's at the very least tried to create headlines that show he's doing something, like releasing from the oil reserve and trying to put focus on the fact that these oil companies have a gang of permits to drill and they were simply refusing to. The only one that I really give him credit for is putting public pressure on big oil to stop price gauging, and publicizing the fact that the price of the barrel has gone down but the company's have still refused to drop prices at the pump. Are you unaware of all of this, or do you just choose to ignore it and go with the narrative that better fits your world view?

Release a million barrels a day from the National Strategic Petroleum Reserve, issue a waiver that allows higher-ethanol content gasoline to be sold than is usually permissible, call for federal and state tax holidays, call for legislation that forces petroleum companies to use their drilling leases or lose them, push for faster alternative energy adoption which will reduce the demand for oil in power plants, and yes, beg the house of Saud.

Which of course only helps so much because there's only so much the American president can do. Even some of those moves are largely for image, knowing they will have little impact, but the fact is there's little alternative other than purposely crashing the economy so as to create a recession and decrease both inflation and demand. Or I guess reinstituting Covid restrictions in order to depress demand.

Considering Biden's aggressive moves so far this is a bald-faced lie. The moves were strongly pro-oil and he has tried to big-up them a lot.

The Obama/Biden Administration increased oil and gas production more than any president in history. And bragged about it. They built massive pipelines all over the country. I think this is fukking stupid, but corporate establishment democrats have undertaken MASSIVE moves to help the petroleum industry. The far-left has had absolutely zero impact on decreasing American oil production outside of spurring the development of alternative sources.
