He's more comparable to an athlete that dropped the ball... was performing at an amazing level at a point in time, but just couldn't put it all together. In some ways, his decision to go solo was his undoing. After 'One For All', he had the option to go anywhere with it... he was working closely with Pete Rock (writing his lyrics), did the 411 joint with MJB, the Hilfiger endorsement, he had peoples' ears, came out the gate with a hit single... but he just didn't take it to the top. Neither one of those solo albums were must-have, they kinda came and went... So I think the reason he doesn't get that kind of acclaim is because he never lived all the way up to the momentum he had built.

No lies told here, you hit the nail on the head. From 90-92 Puba was that dude. Puba was everywhere, on Arsenio Hall, In Living Color, kids was wearing Tommy because of Puba. I was 13 in 1990 and I remember cats out here In Cali The Bay Area was dressing like Puba, playing Brand Nubian, Puba was that dude

He'll always be a legend to me :salute:

I went back and listened to '2000' last week on the strength of the Dante Ross/Mike Eagle podcast.

Album still sounds amazing - I used to run the shyt out of it. The title track though :stylin::stylin::stylin:

I have signed copies of that and 'One For All' signed by all three of them at my folks' crib :wow:

Above the fray.
brand nubian doesn't get the props or the domestic/int. tour money they deserve because in their hey day......Puba was unprofessional, wouldn't show for gigs
He was supposed to be on Low End Theory but he didn’t show up to the session :stopitslime:
Sounds like Puba. Guess he was supposed to be on The Business, instead of Diamond D,

Check out the Dante Ross/Mike Eagle podcast..Gave props to Puba & said he could've been a hall of famer but said he was lazy..Puba could DJ,scatch, write rhymes, produce & play piano smh
He also said Jamar was the most professional even back then

Believe it or not, the reason he doesn't make any lists is because he doesn't make any lists, :ohhh:. A lot of these people who just throw Rakim and Kane and KRS and others on their Top 20's are only doing it because they see them on other people's Top 20's, they probably never heard a single album from any of them.

I personally never got into Puba like that, he was before my time and I never necessarily felt the need to go back and check more of his solo shyt based off of the Brand Nubian stuff I have went back and checked.
