I'm curious to see which characters get included in this movie. And I like that Ayer is still directing...he's a good director and seemed to have a good feel for the Harley Quinn character. I also think not having to make something all cosmic/world threatening but more street level falls into his wheelhouse a little better.

According to the link, Johns, Berg and Margot (Pitched the film) have creative control on the film and the Reboot Tomb Raider/Sherlock Holmes 3 writer is writing it so all Ayer has to do is direct.
Also i can see Will's movie as a team-up movie

The film made bank. Will Smith is an a lister. If he wants a deadshot film he's going to get a deadshot film. People loved him as deadshot
People also loved Margot robbie as Harley and she has a passion for making more with the character.
So a film is a massive success,and two characters that have had solo comics have actors that want to do more and the fans want more and it's "throwing shyt at the wall"

it was an ensemble piece. just b/c people liked them over the rest (and really, who the fukk else were they supposed to like?) doesn't mean they need to branch out. giving Deadshot a movie would be like giving Hawkeye a fukkin movie. Here's a DCU comic movie about a guy who shoots really well!!!
Of course it'll make some money, but it's about the bigger picture. so far they've done an awful job of maximizing their profit potential. they've made a ton of money, when in reality they should have made a fukkTON of money.
He is being forced to be a government agent so any movie with Deadshot could be about him going on a specific mission solo.
Or it could be about him trying to escape from Waller.
Or one of his enemies kidnaps his daughter to force him to do their bidding.
There are a ton of different avenues to take with the character.

A deadshot movie moderately budgeted at 70 ish million would easily be profitable.
Secondly deadshot has his own comics with arcs.

I mean is it really surprising Will Smith would be getting his own spin-off as Deadshot ? That was the first thing I thought of when he was cast plus he was the best part about Suicide Squad. Deadshot has a better chance of being good if it's a hardcore action film with comedic elements.
