Yeah
Don't really care about a dude like McGruder to be honest, he'll never be great.

My focus is on Winslow, Adebayo etc. They need to be great

We can always find roleplayers
I agree but I think he offers something Winslow doesn't yet but we need when Waiters, Whiteside and Dragiç are on the floor: someone to kick out to for 3s when they drive to the basket and defenses collapse.

Until Winslow makes people respect him from long range I think it's best he not be in the floor with that unit for extended tine. Instead put him on the floor when he'll be the one creating for shooters

i like the prospect of winslow leading the 2nd unit, he's a swiss army knife and can be a point forward...a talent we may not be able to take full advantage of if he's in the starting lineup with dragic and waiters

Yeah, championship teams need dudes like McGruder to win. He's a defensive positive that has to be accounted for at all times because his hustle. At worst, he's a stop-gap replacement for minor injuries and, at best, he's an x-factor in big games. Kinda like Livingston and Iggy for the Warriors, Chalmers for our championship Heat, etc.

Having a versatile, low-ego, starting caliber 3 and D guy is great because it allows us to do great things with our lineups.

There's a reason why McGruder has gotten the utmost respect from probably one of the toughest coaching and team staffs of all time. When you got guys like Haslem, Dragic, Spo, and all the dogs in our locker room saying Rodney is that dude you want on your team.

Winslow is gonna be great. I've always been high on him since we drafted him despite his faults but he seems like that type that's gonna will himself into greatness. We joking but if we had Draymond on our team right now, we'd easily be the best defensive team in the league and one of the hardest to guard.

Winslow is Draymond-Lite right now and he's showing that same hunger that turned guys like Kawhi, Butler, and Draymond into monsters.

Honestly, I think we're building our team perfectly to match these high powered, screen heavy offenses like Golden State and the Rockets. Damn, I can't wait for this season to start.

I don’t get why he’s stepping into his shots with his left foot first, when for left handed players it’s usually right foot, then left foot. But I’m not an nba coach

Anyway, I’m a big Winslow fan, he’s probably my favorite player on the team. He’s the guy I really wanted us to get when he was at Duke, but didn’t think we’d be able to get him, but was really glad when he slipped to us

He's easy to root for. We have a nutty ass fanbase (not talking specifically about the coli crowd) that seems to expect the kid to flip a switch overnight, and if not trade him, because apparently all the other successful franchises throw in the towel on their blue chip prospects after 1 full season. He has clearly put in the work, its just a matter of when not if, it all comes together.

Winslow was the last Heat player on the practice court Tuesday, working on his shot for about an hour after practice. He continued to take jumper after jumper as coaches watched on from the side.

“I talked to guys on the team and asked them about what kind of workouts they do or what does it take to become a great shooter, and I listened and I learned,” Winslow said of his offseason approach. “I’m just going out here and trying to get better each day. I’m coming in early, coming in late, watching other guys shoot. Every detail, every little thing I can do to become a better shooter, I’m trying to do.”

Look like he's shooting with his off-hand in those which why it looks more awkward.

As in he’s shooting right handed? I’m not seeing that but if that were the case that’s even dumber

People think if you're not a transcendent immediate superstar like Lebron, Shaq, or Kobe then you're immediate trade bait.

Winslow, at worse, is a decent secondary ball-handler with good vision, a great rebounder, lockdown one on one defense with great basketball IQ. That's x-factor elite role player ala Draymond at worst.

Justise Winslow player some of the best defense I've ever seen on James fukking Harden in both isolation and proper reads in the PnR...as a fukking rookie.

I normally give players about 3 years to show me what they can do. Except for Beasley whom i threw in the towel at the end of year two but then again Beasley had plenty of chances to be star since he was getting most of the shots while Wade was out for a good stretch and he failed to do so and was also a knuckle head.

When it comes to Winslow ill be the first to admit he hasnt has the opportunity that Beasley had. THis team is stacked while with Beasley all we had was Wade. The only thing i said about Winslow is he probably wont be the star some of you predicted he'd be. I just dont see it so far. I see very good player like Jamal Mashburn/Michael Finley tops.
Making one or two all-star teams like those two doesn't make you a "star"

The thing i held against him was not really his fault. I blamed the FO for not jumping on the 4 picks Boston offered for him and thats only for one reason: I saw that we were strapped for picks while rebuilding after giving up 2 1st rounders for Dragic while still paying for the LeBron and Bosh trades yet passed up on 4 #1s for a player we didnt even workout. When i saw this i said to myself "this kid had better be worth it" and i wanted to see immediate impact. But while i love how crafty he is on offense and his high bball IQ he felt well short of my expectations based on the hype. I typically expect rookies to not have great jumpers. But for what they lack in range they typically make up for with their explosiveness and ability to finish at the rim. Since his first month in the league i accepted that hes not gonna be blowing me away with great athletic plays at the rim. Winslow has had trouble finishing at the rim . Many times he blows past his man and cant seem to finish.

So you have a young player who cant shoot and cant finish. So exactly what do you have on offense other than a young Jason Kidd at this point?

But I also know all is not lost, tho. As i mentioned Jason Kidd had trouble finishing at the rim too as a young player and we all know he had no range his first 5 years. You know who else could blow past his man at will and couldnt make a layup to save his life at times? One Russel WestBrook wears that crown as he could blow by anyone but couldn't make a layup to save his life. But these guys were on teams that relied on them as #1 or #2 options. Winslow is on a stacked team and im just afraid that if he doesnt show us what he can do soon he wont get the minutes and touches he needs to show it because i feel hes brings much more to the table with the ball in his hands and we already have players for that.

context from manny

Those were left-handed shots. Winslow was on the far end of the practice court. I just happened to catch a run where he missed five shots in a row. There were many other instances when he buried five or six in a row. He puts up close to 1,000 shots a day and doesn’t leave the court until he’s made at least 500.
