I read the book which is absolutely worth checking out...Saviano has a very distinct style
Political unrest in the shooting locations pushed the release date back to early 2020...shyt sounds epic af tho, basically following coke from production and distribution around the world and the criminal groups and corrupt governments that are involved.
Damn sounds like a helluva project. I hope this dude stays safe, he's exposing a lot. Do you know if he's casting any Gomorrah actors for the Italian portion?

Not sure much about casting...Italian portion will focus on 'Ndrangheta/Calabria versus Camorra/Napoli with Gomorrah so maybe some of the Calabrian dudes from S2?

Just finished the Gomorrah audiobook on hoopladigital
(hoopladigital is free, you use a library card to sign up...low key you can just give a chicago address and sign up for a City of Chicago library card online for free and use it to sign in and get free audiobooks).
Book was complete heat...lots of discussions about power dynamics and economics. Was really fascinating and I highly recommend it for any fans of the show. The scope of the book is much larger than the show but gives very good insight into the Secondigliano War.
Part that left me the most
was about the Casalesi Clan (a grouping of about 4 other clans) doing ~$30B/year in business...with one of the families that comprises it, the Schiavone Clan having over $400B (yes, 400!) in assets confiscated from their members; by the government, through the years. Talking 100s of properties, 100s of farms, sugar refineries, large int'l coffee companies, construction, cement, waste management, everything. The author described it as a 'Comorra omnipotence' where every where he turned, everything was owned by them, every house, business, building, the roads he's walking on, the food he's eating...he can't even throw away a piece of trash b/c they make money off that lol.
The amount of money discussed was truly mindblowing...I can't imagine how much wealth hasn't been confiscated. The Mafia is for real the biggest sector of the Italian economy...

S04E02 may be the most perfectly crafted tv episode I've seen in a very long time. Nobody even has to know any of the previous seasons, you could just watch that ep by itself and know the essence of Italian organized crime, excepting church involvement. Perfection.

How was the church involved with that episode?

It wasn't. To truly grasp the full scope of organized crime in Italy you have to include the church. I've yet to see Saviano touch on that in any work of his, and to me it's the only thing missing from the episode.
