12 Years A Slave did like 900,000 at 14 theatres...

You're talking about a highly anticipated independent/'arthouse' movie. It's their marketing plan to build up hype with a small theatrical release and then slowly opening in more cities as word of mouth spreads.

Oldboy plays in less than 600 theaters, which is literally half the amount of theaters of all the movies ahead of it safe for two, which fall in the same category as 12 Years A Slave, but still played in more theaters than Oldboy. The worrying thing is the not so impressive average per theater, which at least has shown consistency past this weekend but should really be growing to make a wider release a viable option.

One of the biggest problems is that Spike Lee's name has been soiled over the years. To where he's considered racist towards caucasions, or he simply makes movies for black folks. Not to many people, especially White people, are gonna wanna spend their night watching anything made by Spike Lee in 2013. His name is a large obstacle to be honest. But im not mad, i got no love for American directors "remaking," foreign classics.

If you check any Spike Lee news article on IMDb you'll find someone calling him a racist within the first five comments. :snoop:

The only people that say stuff like that are white racist idiots that don't know his resume. For a while he did only make "black" movies but Inside Man, Summer of Sam, and 25th Hour don't exactly fit into the "black" category. He gets scrutinized cuz he's not Hollywood's happy little puppet and calls out bullshyt when he spots it. I'm still waiting for that awesome movie with a black cast from Martin Scorcese though...oh wait :ohhh:

Yea i know breh. I didn't say i agreed. There is a large generational gap as well which doesn't help him. Like you got 20 and unders who probably aren't familiar with his work, but are slightly familiar with the baggage his name brings. Which sucks.

In no particular order:

I Saw The Devil
Gwanghae (Masquerade)
Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter... and Spring
A Bittersweet Life
The Chaser

And Park's best movie to me is Joint Security Area, which he did before breaking through internationally with his Vengeance trilogy.
Lol get the entire fukk out with this stupid hipster bullshyt.

Honestly, from what I've seen, until Barack hit the scene, I don't think that there was anyone in the world that draws our cac racists like Spike does.

It's *their* industry. And the fact that a black male has been successful in it just drives them insane. TV and movies are amongst the biggest entities relaying white supremacy on a WORLDWIDE scale. Whites *do.not.want* black people to be involved in film-making.

Man, this shyt was an abomination.

It might only be mildly awful on it's own, but when compared to the original, it's god damn TERRIBLE.

Every single change Spike made was for the worse. The rearranging of the story, I guess in an attempt to put his own spin on it, only served to b*stardize nearly everything that made the original interesting.

The way the reveal was handle, the change in the villain's "backstory", how his friend was killed, the way they "forced" the relationship to happen.......EVERYTHING was terrible.

One of the most disappointing films I saw this year.

Downloaded and watched tonight...shyt was dope to me...not a cinematic masterpiece that left me like
200x200px-ZC-4555fbb6_old-man-crying-gif.gif
at the end like I'm assuming is the reaction to the original judging how everybody speaks of it (haven't seen it)...but it was an enjoyable movie, one of those joints I'll likely end up watching like a bunch of times this year just because i think company would enjoy it
