Coppola wasn't the same director after Apocalypse Now. Filming that movie fukked his head up. He still made good movies, but nothing to the caliber of anything before Apocalypse Now.
It's deeper than that. Running American Zoetrope was equally impactful to Coppola's change of outlook in general. He tried to make a radical move away from financial constriction and it turned into even more extreme financial constriction. I personally still think that the fallout from that led to him becoming a director-for-hire, and also what led to Godfather III (which I think is awful).
Highly doubt I will see this. I will probably read reviews and peripheral information that comes out regarding it: catalyst for it, who's personal motivations were involved, etc. That will be interesting without a doubt. There's a bit of a Welles-ian stink to all of this, I think.
