Thank you Sony for saving Phil Spencer's favorite game :blessed:

It's like hiring a college student as a math tutor and finding out that student is failing math. This is who they got to teach their studios live service games.

Remember the days

Horizon came into existence because Sony gave GG the freedom to make it. Microsoft's studios basically become assigned IP factories and when you no longer want to make the assigned IP they drop you and make a new studio to churn it out.

Sony not only has talented studios they have studios that can pitch them ideas like The Last of Us and Sony will approve it and it gets made. Microsoft directs all their talent to franchise farming.

I think that over time this has conditioned Xbox fans to be less willing to try the new IPs that Microsoft does eventually make like when they make a Quantum Break or a Sunset Overdrive people shrug at it. Meanwhile if Sony fans see Naughty Dog making a new IP they rush to try it because the developer is just as important to them as the franchise.

If some new studio makes an Uncharted 5 it probably doesn't sell as well as Naughty Dog's games and Sony knows this so if Naughty Dog says we're done with Uncharted Sony isn't afraid to let the series end and see what they come up with next. Bungie wanted to end Halo with 3 and Reach. We see where Bungie is now and where Halo is.

:wow:

The problem is not necessarily the talent, it’s about how Microsoft systematically runs their studios into the ground. They had so many franchises that could have consistent releases but they have ran the developers into the ground or made them run away:

MechAssault
Shadowrun
Project Gotham Racing
Perfect Dark
Fable
Crimson Skies
Ninja Gaiden
They could have had Destiny but mismanged their relationship with Bungie

This is a small list of the franchises they could be releasing on a regular if they didn’t keep screwing with their developers. These asshats had Shadowrun, a cherished RPG and killed it by taking some FPS battle arena concept they had and slapping the Shadowrun name on it. They had PGR but Bizarre said Microsoft was so difficult and meddlesome to work with and Bizarre sold to Activision, this was low hanging fruit for dumb ass Microsoft. They turned Fable an awesome RPG franchise into some stupid ass isometric game that they later then cancelled and the shut down the studio Lionhead. Microsoft is trash...

What I said still stands. Microsoft isn't generating new popular IPs they're buying entire publishers and pulling already in development titles from other platforms. The internal studios they already had or founded are mostly still working on the same franchises they always were.

Unfortunately for Sony Jim Ryan had a hard on for live service games and pushed the company in that direction at a time where live service games are imploding.

The reality is we don't know what Sony has in store for the PS5 in the next several years because they've been playing things tight to the chest instead of like Microsoft announcing games 4-5 or more years out.

Hi-Fi Rush entered production before Xbox bought ZeniMax. The rest of those games aren't even out so who is to say they'll be popular new IPs or not?
