It will be interesting to see how this game impacts Darnold and Purdy contract extensions.

The path is clear that these pocket QBs don't have the ceiling high enough to beat the best of the best. Even Burrow couldn't finish the job and he's the epitome of the current QBs that the media wants.

My Browns had the right outlook to get the type of QB necessary to get the chip (Watson), but I fear they're circling the wagons to let Stefanski get the pocket QB he's been craving for. Maybe Shaduer is the perfect mix, but I think he'll balk at coming to Cleveland

Goff gave up 6 on a interception

Threw a pic on a TD drive before half

Fumble on another td drive

And the last INT it really didn’t matter because they was done

Dude basically gave up 21 points

Kirk Cousins and i been saying on this board for years, he is only good in play action pass and can only hit receivers on crossing routes and 5 yard outs in play action situations.. dude is terrible everywhere else..

Bradley Beal, just like Gilbert are not winners, they get their points but they teams never panned out because these nikkas isn’t winners

Team owners pay these dudes because these guys are available because the other players available around the same time is even below them

I swear in sports , the above average and good players get paid the most . The real elite /top of line guys always take pay cuts etc.

Happens for different reasons 1) Elite players are locked in for their x amount of years and then by the time to talk new contract their old terms look outdated in comparison to those newer contracts. 2) Elite players will only take a paycut if they are already joining a winner. Or they are happy with their current team i.e the coach and supporting cast around them to make a a title run in the 2-3 year window to win now so they give the team more flexibility to strengthen the roster

Or you could look at it Goff doesn’t make it to the Super Bowl if he doesn’t have all those pieces surrounding him and an elite coach. Goff led an offense to 3 points in a Super Bowl. WTF. McVay wanted to swap him for Stafford and ended up winning a Super Bowl for a reason.

Goff has a superbowl if he doesnt play the GOAT coach:yeshrug:
Don’t forget they legit have an argument for benefiting from the worst call in NFL history :mjlol: The league actually tried* to change the rules because of how egregious it was

Not to mention McVay was literally making the reads for him.

Rams line up quickly so Sean McVay can call audibles

The Rams sucked for over a dozen years before Goff helped restore relevancy. The Lions sucked forever with the alleged "great QB" McVay replaced him with, until Goff showed up...

Most QBs are average without strong support. Goff's track record spans two locations and two coaches and two systems. Variety of different skill talent around him, the receivers he had in LA weren't special. But Goff was the QB...

Yall gotta stop undervaluing the role he's played in his team's successes...

This is dumb. That trade gave them the picks needed to surround goof an all pro squad. Unfort the defense was cursed this season so they had to lean on the 60 mill man to actually win games and he shyt himself at home

It could theoretically work in the NFL if you’re like the Lions and have some amazing drafts and a bunch of stars on rookie deals but like you said, there’s VERY small margins with a QB like Goff. I wish we would’ve went year to year franchise tagging Goff. Oh well

Yeah nobody is saying Goff is a scrub. The problem is he’s heavily reliant on supporting skill players and
Unless you're Patrick Mahommes then literally every QB falls in this camp.

It's no secret. QB is most important position in football so there's just a higher premium by default because it's so hard to find.

This dude had you winning the division and winning in the playoffs for the first time in decades. took your team within 30 minutes of a Superbowl appearance last year.

So you refuse to pay more than 30 mil. There would've been multiple teams last offseason ready to pay him more than that. You let him walk and then do what? last offseason your choices were the likes of Cousins Brissett or Minshew. Roll the dice on some 2nd round rookie? You think you're going back tot he NFCCG with that?

Go ahead and waste the precious window of rookie contracts of all that pro-bowl all-pro level talent you have too.

I said they should’ve let Goff’s contract play out. They still had him under contract until the end of this season on his prior contract. My point is with QBs like Goff you wait until their contract plays out then offer then a new contract. No max extensions while you still have them under contract. What team would offer Goff more than $30M per year this free agency after his performance last night?

That’s the problem with the max contract. It artificially caps the salaries of the truly elite players. That extra money goes to the above average and good players.

The Jared Goff, Kirk Cousins, Bradley Beal tier of athletes shouldn’t be paid more than $30M per year or 60% of the max. They always fold when you need them the most. Everything else around them needs to be elite to have a chance. And the contract you give them has to be manageable so they can be traded or released with minimal repercussions.

Who are the MLB & NHL comparisons?
