Gilmore Girls Revival's 4-Episode Narrative Twist Revealed

By Michael Ausiello / October 26 2015, 11:35 AM PDT

Gilmore Girls‘ unorthodox revival structure is about to make a whole lot more sense.

As we reported last week, Netflix is reviving Amy Sherman-Palladino’s beloved dramedy via four 90-minute episodes/mini-movies — a relatively unusual format for a TV continuation.

Well, according to insiders, each episode will represent a different season over the course of one calendar year. In other words, there will be a fall chapter, a winter chapter, a spring chapter and a summer chapter. (“Winter, spring, summer or fall… all you have to do is call… “)

Pretty genius, right?

AS-P and exec producer Daniel Palladino (AKA Team Palladino) will write and direct the entire revival, which will be set in the present day (or roughly eight years after the series ended). Negotiations with the show’s primary cast — Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Kelly Bishop and Scott Patterson — are said to be underway.

Reps for Netflix and Warner Bros. have yet to comment on the approaching Gilmore renaissance.

to be fair to them, there are little towns like this in new england that have very little if any black people and they did have a black character. friends was in nyc. :stopitslime:

I never knew why folks complained about no Black folks on Friends. That was the only thing about that show that was actually real.

Even in a city like NYC, most stick to their kind

Netflix has officially booked its trip back to Stars Hollow.

The streaming service on Friday at long last confirmed that it is resurrectingGilmore Girls, with series stars Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Scott Patterson and Kelly Bishop signed on to reprise their respective roles as Lorelai, Rory, Luke and Emily.

Other returning vets include Sean Gunn (Kirk) and Keiko Agena (Lane).

Netflix made the announcement on Twitter and Graham followed with a celebratory Tweet of her own

TVLine, meanwhile, has learned that the four-part revival — tentatively titledGilmore Girls: Seasons — begins filming Feb. 2 in Los Angeles.

Gilmore creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and executive producer producer Daniel Palladino will write and direct all of Seasons, which will consist of four 90-minute installments. As TVLine exclusively revealed, each installment will represent a different season (winter, spring, etc.) over the course of one calendar year. Seasons is set in the present day, approximately eight years after Gilmore Girls reached its too-soon conclusion on The CW.

:francis: I bet it's Jared Padalecki (Sam from "Supernatural"). Could be Chad Michael Murray (Lucas from "One Tree Hill" & Agent Thompson from "Agent Carter"). I don't think Milo Ventimiglia (Peter Petrelli from "Heroes") is doing anything right now, so it's not him.

Yes. They had a Black French Canadian actor (Yanic Truesdale) who was part of the regular cast:

just because he has dark skin that doesn't automatically mean he's black. That dude is clearly Indian
:francis: But he wasn't a Black character you'd root for on a white teen/young adult show like Wallace on "Veronica Mars", Skills on "One Tree Hill", or Dixon on "90210".
I didn't watch any of those shows but 90210 and Dixon was not written as a real man let alone black man only a c00n/New black could find that character rootable

Milo Ventimiglia (“Gotham”), Matt Czuchry (“The Good Wife”), Liza Weil (“How To Get Away With Murder”) and Yanic Truesdale (“Rumours”) will reprise their original roles in Netflix’s “Gilmore Girls” revival.

Ventimiglia will return as Jess Mariano, Luke Danes’ nephew and one of Rory’s boyfriends; Czuchry will reprise his role as Logan Huntzberger, Rory’s college boyfriend; Weil will appear as Rory’s best friend Paris Geller; and Truesdale will star as Michel Gerard, the concierge at the Independence Inn and then later the Dragonfly Inn.

The original show, which debuted in 2000, followed the relationship between Lorelai (Lauren Graham) — a single mother — and her teenage daughter Rory (Alexis Bledel) in their day-to-day life in Stars Hollow, Connecticut. Both Graham and Bledel will reprise their roles. Scott Patterson, Kelly Bishop, Sean Gunn and Keiko Agena will return as Luke, Emily, Kirk and Lane, respectively.

According to an earlier report, the revival has begun filming in Los Angeles; tentatively titled “Gilmore Girls: Seasons,” the series will be broken up into four 90-minute episodes, each of which will focus on a different season of the year.

I'm pretty sure Rory dated Chad Michael Murray's character too during the first couple seasons. They might as well bring him back too.

:martin: Seeing as how the "Veronica Mars" movie brought back my bae Krysten Ritter even though she was only a recurring for 1 season, I hope this show does it too. This was the show I realized I had thing for her.

Get Your First Look at Jared Padalecki and Milo Ventimiglia Back in Action as Dean and Jess on the Gilmore Girls Set

And let the Dean vs. Jess debate officially begin. Again.

Gilmore Girls fans, we hope you are sitting down, because we officially have our first look at Jared Padalecki (Dean!) and Milo Ventimiglia (Jess!) back in action on the set of the highly anticipated Gilmore Girls revival, and we have Batman AND Superman to thank for it. Wait, what? Let us explain...

To promote Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and tease Gilmore fans, Warner Bros. put together a little promotional video, featuring two of Rory's (Alexis Bledel) main men (Um, where is Matt Czuchry aka Logan though?!) weighing in on the big superhero debate...while standing in Stars Hollow. (The Gazebo is still there!)

In a totally unsurprising move, Milo picked the broody Batman, reasoning, "I think crazy vigilante versus alien that keeps off of sunlight, krypton or not, Batman's going to win."

And, in another totally unsurprising twist, Jared went with Superman, even though he kind of wished the Dark Knight would win. "But Superman is the man of steel," he said.

Hey, don't they kind of sound like GG fans arguing over the whole Dean vs. Jess debate?! Milo and Jared are both set to reprise their fan-favorite roles in Netflix's untitled revival, along with Matt Czuchry as Rory's other main love interest, Logan. While we don't know what any of the Gilmore guys are up to today, we do know that Milo is set to appear in three of the four 90-minute episodes. For more of the latest scoop on the revival, check out our rundown of everything we know so far!

But really, we need to discuss both of their hair styles, right? Right?!
