Ghostbusters is too much of a "boy-oriented" concept, especially when it comes to merchandising. It's gonna be a lot harder to sell fuel packs and ghost traps to little girls.

I'm not even so mad at the complaining, it was the instant vitriol and sexists comments like "women ain't funny", "fukk this faq best known for directing women's movies", "we better see some ass n titties" etc.

When Hollywood does reboots, nikkas complain.

When Hollywood changes the race/sex of characters, people complain.

To me, there's nothing wrong with them wanting to do this.

People complain when women do female-centric movies like Bridesmaids (which I thought was pretty good)

How about putting them in a completely unique context of women as ghost fighters?
