Bruh whats the deal with jollof rice? I've never had it but it just looks like regular tomato rice

It is. Nothing special to the American palette. Senegalese jollof is better because it resembles Jambalaya as they add meat and seafood to it.

At this backhanded post

Mofos couldnt wait to pop off this nonsense
:mjlol:

:hubie: I’m an independent and unbiased third party American. Americans do not grow up eating tomato rice. It is not significant to our palette. Whether or not y’all add additional spices to it or not.

And I’m not even sure If rice is a staple in our diets. When I was young, we would have rice like once every two weeks and it was eaten with a gravy or roux, never plain. And we would add additional meat or vegetables to it. Which is why Senegalese Jollof closely resembles the jambalaya Aframs from the Gulf would have been exposed too.

As an adult, I don’t cook or eat rice except if I’m having ethnic food - Chinese, Indian, Mexican, African, etc.

I think Nigerians/Ghanaians fondness over Jollof is more because it’s a staple in your diets than because it’s actually good (which to me is quite plain, I typically have to mix in goat, lamb, or whatever else protein I’m having with it to be able to eat it.)
