There was a thread the other day on Morgan State linking up with a University in Ghana mostely centered on tech, cloud computing, etc.
I said then that another school (FAMU) should step up on an agricultural exchange.

Tourism, Hospitality management is another field our youngers need to be getting into, with study abroad programs attached to them. We need to get involved in that industry too. Both here and over there.

Ghana is cool stuff, also see this thread in the Root:
Which African country would you move to given the chance?

I would move there at the right opportunity for my family, but Ghana is a developing country. People who want to move there need to get used to a few basic things:

1. Electricity is spotty and many large single family residences (or communities) have diesel backups so this is an extra expense
2. Water can go out sometimes too due to pump failures or power loss
3. We all are Black but you do start out as foreigners, learning a language like Twi (even some) can help but you need to find a circle of Ghanian friends to support you
4. Bring a skill or find out something the local economy needs. Ghana needs industry and commerce, not more people warming seats at a NGO
5. You will need vaccines like yellow fever and anti-malarials. A young AA sister who was a doctor died soon after I left Ghana from cerebral malaria. Be careful.
6. Land and living is cheap but a lot of items are expensive due to having to be imported. Supplying these locally could make you rich (see #4)

I'm not saying this to discourage anyone. I love Ghana and I HIGHLY recommend traveling there (those slave castles man:to: ). But a lots of AAs will not do research or visit, have a dreamy idea, and then not deal with reality well and then sometimes even start shytting on the locals. Not a recipe for success.

For me being from Sierra Leone, its obvious. But I really wanna explore the rest of my region. I really never knew how connected that area from Southern Mali/Mauritania to Western Liberia is.

Honestly outside of Senegal, that region needs a lot of work, and i mean work. But so much natural beauty especially in the interior. I really want to do something in that region. By the Grace of Oshun I will be in Salone next summer, with plans on doing a Sierra Leone to Senegal road trip.

Shoutout to NAA and the leadership with the tightening up of the return movement. I hope they continue to advance and use it to fully control the tourism industry. There’s still too many Chinese and Arabs handling things for my own personal comfort.

the king of Asante has also given out some land to African Americans to have to build on as well. All good things, I just continue to hope they refine and tighten up some loose ends. This can soar as a movement and for the country’s advancement.

This is very positive and great news, but even with racism America is still a more advance country then Ghana.
true, but if you are expecting to come to fully developped country then africa isnt for you.

Africa needs people who want to be part of its development to bring it to the next level, and it looks like Ghana is on that path.

i'm looking into getting a 2nd citizenship

Make sure that you hit us with the knowledge and what you learn about this. I'm interested, as well.

Travel there a couple of times a year. Get ya feet wet. If you get comfortable and like it get that citizenship. You can still keep your American citizenship too.

@Carlton Banks

Can you tell us more, point us in the direction, or provide links about this?

Modern agriculture is large scale commercial agriculture which requires a lot of financing (equipment, seed) and you know who often dominates that, especially in Southern and Eastern Africa, due to getting land and financing :mjpls:

If you want to help Africa in agriculture, study modern techniques including sustainable fertilizer, pesticides, selective breeding, and genetics/chemistry. You could be huge. Indians were starting to move into Ghana farming when I was last there so I hope we don't lose the plot again
I think africans can develop farming to b more sustainable, because commercial farming as it currently is in Asia and West drains the land which is why fertilizers are needed, the output needed makes it unsustainable.

I have my thoughts on how commecial/western style farming if implemented throughout the continent will further impoverished arable land.

Indians and chinese are looking to africa because there are stilll a lot of virgin land, asia ruin their soil and now looking elsewhere.
