Gianna Fornesi is among them. She prepaid her rooms at the Hilton San Jose for a conference in March. But earlier this week, organizers canceled the event. Santa Clara County is a coronavirus "hot zone" and has banned gatherings with more than 1,000 attendees. But Hilton still refused to refund the room, she says.

"Given the global pandemic that is happening right now, I think I should be entitled to a refund or a hotel credit at the very least," says Fornesi, a marketing director from San Francisco.

Hilton had granted waivers of its refund policy for guests in China, South Korea, Italy and Saudia Arabia – but not San Jose. That meant Hilton would keep her $588.
Coronavirus: Cancellations bring out the best and worst in industry
This is flat out wrong and the companies engaging in these practices need to be slapped back to reality.

Their bottom line is not more important than a crisis.

She literally says, "y'all became foreigners real quick" as if the policies were targeted specifically at African Americans.

The tour company is a private business, not government owned. They are informed by government policy. If the government closes its borders due to a global pandemic, this will obviously have a direct impact on tour operators. Did they look at the fine print? What is the return policy?

What she could have done is call out the business, not make specious comments for cheap clicks. This hag types out whatever she thinks will gain more followers and her uneducated followers eat it up.

The initiative was pushed by the government of ghana and it was a very specific thing they were pushing. Some company starts scamming people under that initiative the government needs to step in because they cosigned it. It's not hard to comprehend.

Above the fray.
Breh posed that shyt like it was really a challenge :pachaha: I guess there's no way possible that tons of people out here are fighting for refunds on purchases.

Hell I heard if you take one of the coronavirus tests and it's positive, the test is free. But if it's negative then you owe like $5000.

We got people struggling to find childcare and jobs demanding they come in. Or not paying them at all :mindblown:

These are my own fellow AMERICANS on this fukk shyt. But you know the real problem right??? Those damn Africans
full
Thing about this discussion is that some people won't even pretend to be objective.

People should get their money back as per the fine print of their tickets/booking information. Using this for show content is consistent with the things that YC has been criticized for over the past year.

I was gonna look up tourism ads by governors , or ethnic tourism print ads targeted towards white Americans of Irish or Italian heritage to give context to the "bu bu but their president promoted the return" argument. Jersey has large white ethnic population, and their home countries have run variations of the "year of return" campaign in the past.
Those Italian Americans are not seeing refunds any time soon(if EVER) for planned 2020 trips to Italy

Would be a waste of my time to dig and post any of that info. Facts, precedents, and context rarely matters with people who aren't objective.

Ghana is overrated anyways. AA should have taken their talent to Senegal, don't yall have the highest Senegambiam/Malian dna out of all the diaspora?.
Facts. I never cared about this "Year of return shyt" and always seen it as a marketing ploy. Senegal and Ivory Coast interested me the most in West Africa. I don't know why both sides(Yvette and her supporters and the anti-ADOS side) are getting worked up. Its just a damn leisure tourism marketing ploy. Nothing more nothing less.

Now South Africa they at least said they can refund my trip or reschedules(tho I have to pay a fee tho my dumbass didnt put down insurance). :wow: But I'm holding out hope as its not till September. Call me when Tanzania closes their borders. :mjcry:

But..... Fact is.... Ghana should at LEAST offer refunds or rescheduling....

Where was it proved it was a scam? Was the intention to never provide them tourism services or were they unable to offer them a refund as a result of the government's mandate?

You might be a basement dweller so these things could be unusual to you, but they do happen. I was on a Eurotrip a while back and paid a good amount in advance for my hotel. I wanted a refund because I found a better place and they refused. I read the fine print, but policy is policy.

If I booked my ticket during the coronavirus pandemic, would I blame the country that I visited for the hotel's policies? Are you stupid?

Basically what you are saying is if trump announces a push for tourism for the U.S. and I get burned by a US travel company coming over it's Trump's fault and Americans.:francis: You are still buying from a private business not the government.:snoop: You don't blame the government you go after the private business. Nobody is condoning the business practise just lamenting trying to attach it to the government... straight clout demon activity. That is her domain. Pretend not to understand this and call yourself and adult :pachaha:
B...

Let them get their "Thanks Obama!" moment on :dead:

Want to know how easily you tell these people are full of it? Colleges and university systems have shut down all over the US halfway through a semester. How many of those kids attending from out of town(or worse, out of state or from a different country) do you think are getting money back that they spent on dorm housing or meal plans? How many will get loan money forgiven or prorated?

A 15 second google search will show that A) only one college has shut down for the rest of the semester B) the decision on refunding students is still up in the air, it's too early.

it's all in this article that is only 5 days old:

are you still waiting?
