Whats funny about this pro-GZ approach is that its in complete dismissal of the idea that "self-defense" is a two way street. Somehow Trayvon doesnt possess the ability to stand his ground and defend himself against an armed aggressor. More importantly, this conclusion is in defiance of the facts available to us --- we know that GZ followed him for blocks and blocks, w/o provocation, and intimidated the young man based on the documented 911 call. Your analysis of the events is also off, because you are taking GZ's flimsy account as gospel, with regard to him "retreating to his truck" --- the problem with that is that it doesnt square with the logistics of the fight, which didnt transpire anywhere near his vehicle. The crime scene does square with the idea that GZ continued to disregard the orders of the police dispatcher, and continued his pursuit of Trayvon into the complex.

But Zimmerman DID get the back of his head smashed before, we assume, Trayvon died. So maybe it was Zimmerman that was defending himself from an attack. If that's the case then his actions are justified in the eyes of the State of Florida. The "Castle" doctrine (stand your ground) is still very popular in many jurisdictions, including Sanford FL.

You may be right. A grand jury investigation concerning self defense was bypassed. The prosecution wasn't able to charge Zimmerman with 1st degree urder. Also, race influences the public's sympathy, especially when the victims are white. Think back on Jon Benet or Natalee Holloway. Lots of media coverage for those two.

honestly, I feel sorry for him.

He was trying to do right, and he had media attack and lambast him.

He is painted as a white racist when his grant grandfather was black. What did he do that was so wrong? He defended himself against an Aggressor. If I was in his shoes, I feel I may have done the same thing.

If he had shot someone of another race, I don't think anyone would have cared at all. that is true shame of this case.

Black people are scary. Let's be honest. I'm being honest with myself here. They put fear into my heart. When I see them on the street, I am scared. When I am scared, I react with instinct and emotion--not logic and reason. That's why I feel empathetic.

As a non-black, I remember how it was in school. How black kids would rob and pick on those that were weaker than them. I felt like they hated everyone. I remember the violence, and how we all banded together to defend ourselves. I'm not the only one who experienced this. Millions of others in the public school system went through the same thing. We are conditioned to hate and to fear through our experiences, and every time we are put into situations where our lives (we think) is in danger, those experiences push us to do things that we wouldn't otherwise.

We're animals and we're programed to behave a certain way--a predictable way. I can't blame Zimmerman reacting the way he did. I don't think he is a evil person, and I don't think he deserves this ridicule.
