Years ago I asked that same question on a genetic group after I received my 23andMe results. I'm the opposite of you, dark skin but only 68% west african. I was told that one's % of african blood =/= to pigmentation. This was back in 2012.

Both my dad's maternal and paternal lines are fair skin. My mother's maternal line is fair skin but her paternal line is not. Her father's line is from the South Carolina/Georgia border and lived in what is described as a "genetic bottleneck". Pretty much, was a group of blacks that went unmixed and had little genetic contact with other races. Kind of like the Gullahs. So they're extremeley dark. So with me, it's apparent, my grandfather's genes kicked in and obliterated any european pigmentation genes I would have inherited from the other lines.
I remember seeing that in 23andme you should look at line 15 on your genetic ancestry composition.

Mine has a lot of blue in it, yours may have a lot of pink.

He wouldn't be light-skinned in the West?

I don't think he is dark skin.

My uncles are much darker than him but probably a lot more European than him.

It makes perfect sense when people take into consideration that there are very light skin Africans who are blacker than 99% of AA people.
I have cousins that are your skin tone and there isn't a cac in their ancestry.

Not directed at you, but I wish Americans will finally wake up and realize that Africa, a continent nearly 3x the size of America has far far far more diverse phenotypes than just "broad nose, big lips, dark skin"

I'm 100% Nigerian, born in Nigeria and my black American friends always tell me "You dont look like African at all :gucci:"

"You have small ears"
"You have a cac nose"

The fukk is a cac nose anyway? :heh:
While I do have white in my ancestry from my mom side due to rape/slavery, I have none from my dads side and he got cousins as light as my momma.

I'm ignoring your first part because that has literally nothign to do with the thread.
If you want, you can create a thread called "Do Light-Skin people actually have it bad?"
Cuz that's clearly what you came in here to talk about

As for your second part, I don't care if you disagree with my assertion, doesn't change facts at all :mjlol:

I'm against posting pics of people other than myself on here, but one of my exes is the same complexion as OP, and she's 100% Abia
My recent gf is my skintone, but her little sister is lighter than OP and they are 100% Imo
My cousin is around OPs tone and he's 100% Anambra like me
Unless you gonna say OP isn't "Light" compared to Americans :mjlol:

You are not some authority on African skintones.

You need to relax cuz you come off sounding crazy in this thread

Just admit that you are wrong, and keep it moving

Ever heard the word “red ibo” in Jamaica? Your suspicion is true, “red ibo” was used to refer to the Igbo slaves in Jamaica because of their light skin.

Jamaica witnessed the influx of the Igbo race between 1790 and 1809 during the transatlantic slave trade.

The modern Igbo race dwelt in the Bight of Biafra in Nigeria. It was from here that the Igbos who were kidnapped and sold as slaves by the Europeans were taken to work on plantations.

One recurrent observation was the relatively higher prevalence of fair skinned people from the Igbo area, known then in the Atlantic as the ‘Eboe Country’. The fairer skin was demonised by planters as ‘sickly’ and the Igbo were characterised as weak because of this. This also meant their ‘price’ dropped and poorer planters in places like Virginia took many Igbo leading to a saturation of Igbo people there. The disdain, however, may have been fuelled somewhat by the fact that enslaved Igbo people weren’t unknown for their defiance of slavery, immortalised in the folktale of Ebo landing; they were also involved in a number of slave revolts all over the Caribbean, including in Haiti.

Its interesting that we have people in this thread that are essentially parroting cac talking points. :patrice:
Basically saying that all Africans look the same, and the ones who don't only look different because of cac DNA:jbhmm:

It's because they've never been exposed to people from the African continent.

I've been fortunate to meet people from all corners of the African continent and I've seen how facially diverse we are. It also helps that if you're from Africa, you can tell if someone's from your country or ethnic group - or not.

I can tell if someone's from Nigeria just by looking at their eyes and cheekbones.

Tuareg

Peul/Fula

Xhosa and other Khoi/Southern Bantu admixes

Beja and other cushytic/horn Africans

Igbo

All have light complexion in noticeable frequency

Why is this still being debated?

The typical AA family has the entire spectrum to the point it should be obvious hue and racial “purity” do not share a strong positive correlation.

I’ve said this for years but it goes unnoticed; there is more genetic variation WITHIN a race than there are between different races. My college African American studies teacher, who is also an anthropologist, would always drop so much knowledge on this...
