Eh, I'm a lil on the fence. On one hand, I don't see why they couldn't have their own float or whatever like anyone else in the parade, but at the same time it manages to come off a bit extra. Neither one is enough for me to truly give a fukk though.

Which brings me to what I really wanted to say, ya'll have lost me on this one beer/drinks aside, the St. Patrick's Day parade has gotta be the whitest events I could possibly imagine. Look at that cac excellence on display in the OP. Why are ya'll taking issue again?

Those are professions. Professions that gays can be a part of. They want to use the parade as a means to tell the world their sexual orientation. Why is that important? Why does it have to be shoved down our throats every fukking event?

They aren't barred from joining the parade whatsoever. This is a joke.

This is what I spoke about in the last thread, the gay community is their own worst enemy. To some in the community, it seems their sexual orientation is their entire identity but yet tell people they just want to be treated as normal people and equal. This is the total opposite of that. They want sacred protected status at every turn and event.

Ok, those are professions. Fair point, like I said in my response to DEAD7. But what do professions have to do with Irishness? We can assume that ok, these are for Irish people in these particular professions. That's fine, too. But then why are the "Lobos Band de Guatemala" and the Virginia Women's Institute for Leadership marching this year?

I have no interest in campaigning to get gays allowed in the parade. The parade is a private entity, and the organizers can exclude whoever they want. I'm just pointing out that the rationale for that exclusion in this case is simply general discomfort with them, not some consistent attempt to keep the parade's marchers focused towards Irish/Irish-American culture, history, and participation in American life.

You asked, "But what do professions have to do with Irishness?". These professions are what uplifted the Irish people in NY and elsewhere in this country from squalor. These professions are also the backbone of a the city. It's pretty meaningful and obvious why they would be marching there.

Yea man. Dude has like the top selling jersey and gets highlight plays.

And he's a subpar-to-mediocre basketball player who is well beyond his prime. Trust me, I understand the impact it was for him to come out, especially in sports, but now we are judging his work based on something that has no bearing on his work?
