The nation is breathing a heavy sigh of relief today after school officials in Brevard County, Fla. indicated that they are allowing Cocoa High School student Robert Marucci to return to class.

Marucci had previously been suspended for 10 days just because he starred in gay porn movies, reports local CBS affiliate WKMG.

The 18-year-old senior had appeared in porn flicks and still images on Seancody.com, a gay porn website featuring lots of buff gay dudes doing buff gay things.

Marucci dropped the pedestrian name Robert and went by the much buffer name “Noel.” He posed naked. He had sex with other men. In an about-me segment on the porn site, he discussed the joys of surfing.

On Tuesday, school district officials concluded that it was wrong to suspend Marucci. They declared a pending investigation over and cleared the senior to return to school today.

Students at Cocoa High had discovered Marucci’s photos and videos a few weeks ago. A viral sensation ensued on campus by way of images passed on cell phones.

A disciplinary referral obtained by the Daily Mail shows that Marucci was cited for causing a “major campus disruption.”

School officials say they suspended Marucci because he made threats (up to and including threatening to bring a weapon to school) in response to other students who were taunting him about his newfound porn stardom.

Marucci’s mother, Melyssa Lieb, vehemently disputes this characterization and says the principal suspended Marucci only for his unusual employment choices.

“She flat out told me that my son was expelled not just suspended, he was expelled due to his explicit, adult, lifestyle career,” Lieb told WKMG.

Marucci and Lieb have also insisted that the surfing senior had made porn for a good cause: helping the family with its troubled finances.

Marucci expressed pride in his work and also observed that his gay porn work is legal.

So you want an institution's leaders to be able to legally discriminate against a student because of their private beliefs, but you don't believe in the student's right to a private life that has nothing to do with his public engagements?

How incoherent can you get? :what:

Ahem...

Sad how the only topics you all Really care about revolve around homosexuals, demons and san francisco. Yet, yall pretend that these topics arent a big deal. Wow, its so demonic, friends.

Sounds like you were talking about yourself after all, friend. How do you manage those instant replies?

What the kid did isn't illegal... so they should leave him alone about that.

but

School officials say they suspended Marucci because he made threats (up to and including threatening to bring a weapon to school) in response to other students who were taunting him about his newfound porn stardom.

If he was making waves like that.... then that distracts from the focus of other students so :camby:

I don't think you understand what legal privacy is. If someone engages in something legal in their private life, they can't be suspended over it at school. The two are unrelated.
naw, you're wrong.

Legally you can have a blog or crazy shyt on facebook... or make a sex tape w ur girlfriend.... or talk about your love of guns and hate of black people online...

all that shyt you can do..

but the moment school finds out and/or students start to seem disturbed by it

Nah. That's why the investigation that occurred concluded by finding that the suspension was wrong, and the student is returning to school again. Making a sex tape or making Facebook posts, unless they're illegal (ie constitute credible threats, for example,) have no effect on your standing in school.

If a teacher does porn in her private life doesn't mean it will not get her in trouble and possibly at a drop of a dime fired. Get real...once it's on-line, it's not longer private. If he did a homevideo...much different.

Again, you're not speaking in terms of legal privacy. If an unauthorized sex tape of your sister hits the internet, it's public, yes, but it's not legally public. Legal public and private space is different from "I can see this" and "I can't see this." And relevant for this case, the two are separate, as are different spheres of jurisdiction. That's why the investigation sided with the student, said the suspension was wrong, and he's going back to school.

Nearly every school district can suspend you for causing a disturbance at school.... or doing something that affects the climate at school.. They mainly expell people if it's huge enough.

There was this push and support to get this kid back in is the only reason that he is going back - Get real.

With no push he would be :camby:

I remember I was suspended for 4 days for simply having a certain color on.... because school officials aren't stupid.. they know things.

It's all in the interest of the students... legal privacy goes out the window when it directly affects the public life of the student, the school environment, and the way the school is viewed. Clearly this kid caused and uproar.

If this were a private school there would be zero discussion.

At the very least he can be banned from prom, sports, music - For sure... as those are not a right, but a privilege. I guarantee he will be banned from those..
