If they were truly confident in their talking points, they would engage in conversation like normal people - that is you give the person equal time to address the points raised.

newsome threw good shots, hannity has no offense but his defense, though ugly, prevents him from getting hit cleanly. he does that right wing thing where they just talk over you and throw random inaccurate statements at you while you make a point. because of this, your points dont really "land", no matter how true or relevant.

the best shots are landed when the opponent actually has some capacity for shame or self-reflection. when you hit somebody with a fact and his body language, for a brief moment, reveals that he in fact agrees, although begrudgingly. even if he goes on to lie a second after that, everybody can acknowledge the energy. these modern day right wingers have no shame, so they roll with every punch and clench for dear life whenever allowed. this results in nothing really being accomplished with political discourse - if you thought one way before the discussion, you will continue doing so. nothing ever gets any better.
