Atelier Ryza Ever Darkness & The Secret Hideout
Just wrapped up the first Atelier Ryza game and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. The game centers around alchemy and crafting. Which was a really nice change of pace than all the JRPG's that I have played. Surprisingly crafting was super addicting and I think there were times I spent hours just on crafting. The battle system was turn-based in real-time. Essentially you wait your turn but if you take too long the opponent can make their move when they can. The story was a very slice of life. All of the characters had good development and had their time to shine.

As much as I enjoyed it, it isn't something that I would recommend to other people since the game kind of punishes you for not crafting. (To be fair the game is entirely designed around this mechanic)

I think I am going to start Code Vein tonight.

Just finished Code Vein and as my first Souls-like game I really enjoyed it. Granted there were some aspects of the game that was badly designed. Also, the story was good despite literally being a depression ride lmao.

I've been itching for a strategy JRPG lately so I am starting Valkyria Chronicles 1.

How was Nier, I hear people say it can be boring and the gunplay/controls suck?

I am just going to ignore talking about the story since I am pretty sure people have gushed enough about it. This and the Witcher 3 are in my top 2 for stories from last-gen from all of the RPG's I have plated.

Note I am of the opinion that Automata is overrated.

The gameplay is solid. Coming from Ys Viii in particular I kind of felt disappointed here. Like you have more options, but none really feel great. With that said it is really easy to get a great build with the amount of customization made available to you. But one thing to note one of the 3 characters can hack to kill or control enemies. I get it goes with his character. But it is easy and boring AF. I was bored to death when having to use him in combat. 2B was fun to use still.

The graphics are good. It is 1080 60 FPS. Kind of wished it pushed 4k 60 FPS, but the graphics and detail are great so no complaints here. But the open-world aspect I never see gets criticized, but it is just big and empty.

The mech controls can be frustrating especially at first. (Especially since in the tutorial levels there are no checkpoints which is ridiculous)

I've been seeing the game on sale for $20 now and it is a steal at that price. But the story hard carries this game. And obviously, you would need to "beat" the game 4 times to get the true ending.
