backwards compatibility and remakes really muddy the waters, but it feels like PS4 had a few more important games by this time than PS5.

housemarque and from software really stepped up to deliver early for this generation. i think part of that is their business practices are simpler and more sustainable than the typical developer's today. same with larian studios - they are both dev and publisher. looks like if you keep the developers safe, the game can be made with taste and style and not be so soulless.
Elaborate on simpler and sustainable please

not having a publicly traded publisher constantly forcing you to do profit-maximizing things. if they do deal with such a publisher (ie, fromsoft with namco) it is a per-project basis or have a 2nd party relationship (housemarque with sony) that has more or less agreed that the developer should function independently. there seems to be much less employee turnover and burnout with them and less annoying DLC monetization.

What else you want us to do? Make a video review? :mjlol:
Why is Persona 5 Royal or GOW generation defining last gen but FFVII Rebirth or Spider-man 2 not?
Because they're just sequels. :manny:

But to me, it all peaked in the 360 era. Now everything is just remakes, remasters and repackaging of those games with shinier paint and more expensive graffix but with less total fun and less games to play. We have Spidey today, but we had Arkham 16 years ago. GTA has been the same since 2008. Assassin's Creed, COD, Madden etc all come out yearly. Even bigger ps exclusive are built on formulas from the 360 era. Horizon Zero Dawn, GoW, etc are just games we've had before but with new paint. There's no real jump so this "generation defining" nonsense doesn't really apply. Especially because a lot of this stuff is just sequels. 15+ years ago Uncharted and Red Dead were kings fast forward and it's been done...

Nah, last generation had some of the biggest genre defining games to date still.

Breath of the wild which spawn gatcha knock offs, and pub g and fortnite.

This generation does have a few things like marvel rivals, BG3 and elden ring.

Overall this generation really does have a ton of great games, people are just really hard to please now because of expectations and familiarities.
