I dont know, in the books they repeatedly kept stating how Walder Frey was not to be trusted and he never forgets slights. Then people kept saying how he won every battle but he lost the war by marrying that new chick, i mean it was repeated a lot. I knew something bad was about to pop off.
I knew Walder was a bytch when Robb had to promise to marry one of his daughters just to cross the bridge. Why did he have to do that when the Freys are supposed to be bannermen of the Tullys? Why couldnt he just cross for free?
When he showed up with Jeyne, I, like everybody else, was looking at him like
. Yeah everybody knew Frey was a shady, bitter, hoeass nikka, but it was moreso on some "fukk you, I ain't helping you fight, and you can't use my bridge either, ya bish!"
type vindictiveness. Not "Ya moms, the dog, everybody dying, no lying" type. I know the way a nikka living was wack, but you don't get a nikka back like that.
Plus throughout the books GRRM had established the hospitality rules, so we as readers knew how important it was when Cat managed to secure that snack for the group. Everybody, characters and readers alike, were like
once she secured that meal. It's these subtle details that he planted throughout the series that make major events like the RW so impactful. We're not really getting that on the show.
Some of it I'm sure is due to time constraints, some because it's hard to translate to video medium. I saw how a few people in the other thread were complaining about the first 2 eps this season being filler, not realizing how some of those seemingly minor events will have big implications in the future. TV crowd in general is just much more impatient than a book reading crowd, so I guess quite a bit of it can be attributed to that also. Overall they do a good job, but I think Rob's situation could have been handled a little better. We still have what, 5 eps before shyt goes down, so they still have time to pull it together.
