I've heard that they breezed through/skipped the 4th book, but the story was still complex for the show writers to solve reasonably. Honestly, the way I see it, GRRM needs a minimum of 4 books to resolve the plot, unless he senselessly murders some key characters. The strength as well as weakness of the books is that they fully embrace the dynamism of real life politics, adding more important plot points with every new character introduced.

It's not unbelievable. They didn't have any more source material from Martin.

Addendum: I couldn't have said it any better than @Majestyx said.
To be fair, D&D took a hatchet to books 4 and 5. They cut a bunch of plots and characters that in hindsight are pretty crucial to telling a good story. Had they adapted the actual source material instead of cutting, remixing, and in some cases inventing wholly original plots (Jaime to Dorne) the story would have stayed on Martin's track and given Martin more time to get Winds out. GRRM said constantly that they could have done more seasons based on the source material and he is right.

But D&D was adamant about finishing in seven seasons (HBO basically had to beg for the compromise of two shortened final seasons). They didn't want to do the show anymore so they were going to rush it no matter what.

It's still unbelievable how David Benioff and D.B Weiss fukked up the show. Not only did they ruin one of the potential GOAT shows, they pretty much killed off all the enthusiasm for future spin-offs. And I'm assuming most of the residual money (box sets, merchandise, etc.) that could've been banked for years has been ruined because nobody wants to be reminded of what the show became.

Worst of all is that these idiots rushed GoT so they could work on Star Wars, only to drop out of Star Wars projects after completely fukking up GoT :hhh:

Thankfully they also nixed their 'Confederacy Won the War' show, imagine the shytshow that would've been :picard:

And after all their talk about how busy they are, all they have done after GoT is Gemini Man screenplay and a Leslie Jones comedy special :gucci:

And the fact they only do interviews here and there where they give small details in the decisions they made for the final episodes is just :mindblown:

You knew the last episode was bad when they didnā€™t have the ā€œafter showā€ attached to it on HBO GO :mjlol:

:russ: at them cancelling their Comic Con appearance because they KNEW the fans were gonna :pacspit:

I got into GoT late so I didnā€™t have full attachment to the show like that unlike people who watched it since day 1. So I find how it all went down funny :pachaha:

HBO LITERALLY gave them a blank check. Told them to take as LONG as they want and to have as many episodes they needed to completely flush out the story.

But they just said ā€œNah...just 6 :hubie:ā€œ

And proceeded just to make up some bullshyt to get out their deal :russ:

The author even GAVE them the ending to the series and he didnā€™t even write it yet! :damn:

Hell Courtney Kemp gave a better ending to ā€œPowerā€ then GoT...and thatā€™s SAD.

name a show with a bigger pump fake?
I've never seen a fall from grace like game of thrones
all these clues, buildup, and foreshadowing for nothing
none of that shyt mattered in the end
if you told me game of thrones would be the trash we saw that last season after the first four seasons I would have laughed in your face
:francis:

Only one I can think of is Lost.

That ending was trash.

Worst TV show adaption ever based solely off when they swerved from the book plots and the show fell completely off the cliff. Those last couple of seasons were ass

Tyrion for the last 2 seasons: We need to find a way for Daenerys to take over the throne while killing as few people as possible

Tyrion in the 2nd to last episode: hey Jaime, I know a secret passageway to the back of the Red Keep

:snoop:
