I regret that although my remarks were focused on promoting inclusion, they created an opportunity for misunderstanding and mischaracterization. I apologize for the hurt that this caused in the Muslim community.
“Even when individuals disagree about difficult issues, I am committed to finding space to foster authentic dialogue and seeking points of understanding. I sat down to hear from Muslim community members before my remarks on Tuesday and with District 5 Muslim leaders on Thursday. I listened, and I understand their concerns.
“I look forward to continuing to work with members of our Muslim and LGBTQIA+ communities as we take on issues of importance for all residents.”

When someone posts this much on this subject I’m reminded of the study that showed that arousal level when watching gay porn is directly proportional to how anti-gay a person is.
It’s a fringe issue, but something that needs hard lines. I always say live your truth and be who you want to be as long as it isn’t infringing on someone else’s life. In this case however I have to empathize with women who have sports for THEM because those who transition are infringing on their space. The simple answer to me is if your a biological male you have to compete with other biological males. If your a biological female you also have to compete with biological males if you’re taking hormones to become more masculine. It might not be “fair” to everyone’s preference but it makes sure to level the playing field from a pure biology standpoint.
