Yeah, i actually agree. I still think multiplayer games should earn its player base by being full priced, complete games. F2P had a surge because MUA was up over the pandemic but we’re starting to see a huge drop off now which means all these GAAS titles just aren’t feasible anymore.

There will still be a few that squeeze through the cracks and become gold mines but the fact is, people are still paying full price for COD which means the demand is sitll there for premium multiplayer experiences

This F2P “omg 10m players in a week” shyt is all fugazi. We just saw the same thing with multiversus, it blew up for a couple of weeks and now its almost not talked aobut at all and i wouldn’t be surprised if its a year away from shut down status also.
that whole "we had 10m players the first week" remind me of all of these tech start ups looking for funding. Due to the price to make larger full priced games, it might the only option for some developers.

Another thing is with a lot of games shifting to Gamepass and PS+ I'm assuming there needs to be a secondary from of monetization to break even.

Blizzard and some of these other companies love that initial high player count. They all fluffing the numbers by getting people to go on twitch for early access codes, or playing it gets you some other bonus or benefit. A lot of sponsored plays

People were so ready to say overwatch was back last year because of those first week player counts

Crazy how GAAS games have an expiration date. I still bust out shining force every few years if im bored and need something to play on my phone when i'm traveling somewhere. Game actually used to be in the app store but last time i had to torrent it.

Any game with always online, so even single player games are going down too.

Whats even funnier is with all these shut downs, Destruction All Stars is still getting updates :blessed:

I think the issue is these devs are in their own way. I think the battlepass system for most games should be dead because the FOMO aspect of it doesn't work for most games. I don't think people are going to drop a certain MP they're hooked on for another battle pass. I think these devs need to figure out a fine balance of rewarding players because many are turned off by the cash shops and commitments of battlepass.

I think the best system was the first Overwatch that gave players loot boxes when they leveled up. It also gave the person the option to buy loot boxes i they wanted to. I think these games need to realize they're not Fortnite, Apex, or COD. Also, you have to provide content or people will drop you like they did with Halo Infinite

Not all loot boxes are bad. I thought Overwatch system did it fair, where you can pretty much earn by playing, and buying lootboxes was an option. They need to figure out something because following the games I mentioned earlier is a recipe for disaster for most games.

They literally just cancelled the next Titanfall game lol

Its apex from this point on

I'm honestly ready for something more serious from Respawn with what they learned from Titanfall and Apex.

The lore got extremely goofy with Apex Legends and the overall Titanfall story was never that compelling. The art was pretty meh too. Probably the worst looking giant robots in any form of media.
