Apparently there are no scripts that have been written yet (as stated by Zazie Beatz in a recent interview). Filming was supposed to commence in January of next hear but due to Donald’s schedule its up in the air.
According to Stephen Glover they are going to focus a bit more on black women specific storytelling
There’s currently only one woman, Stefani Robinson, in the Atlanta writer’s room. “I think we have some cool ideas in season three that’ll put some more women on screen,” he added. “There’s a very specific perspective from the Atlanta woman that I think we’re gonna explore in season three.”

According to the man himself, Donald Glover. Season 3 will have a more “Triumphant” feel akin to Kanye West’s Graduation album.
Donald Glover was met with applause after assuring the audience at the Saban Media Center on Friday that the upcoming third season of “Atlanta” would be their television equivalent of Kanye West’s Grammy award-winning third album, “Graduation.”
“This will be our most accessible, but also the realest and honest version of it, and I think the most enjoyable,” Glover said.

Donald Glover and Bill Hader faced off for the first of five times at Saturday’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards, but neither came out on top for their hosting stints on “Saturday Night Live.” Instead, Katt Williams took home Best Comedy Actor for Glover’s show “Atlanta.”
Williams was in sixth place in our odds for his performance as Earn’s (Glover) uncle Willie in the episode “Alligator Man” who imparts wisdom and a gold-plated gun to his nephew by the episode’s end. This is his first nomination and win.
