My predictions

Donald Glover will repeat as Best Lead Actor and will also win Best Guest Actor

Hiro will win Best Director for Teddy Perkins

Stephen will win Best Writing for FUBU

The series will win Best Comedy

I’d LOVE to see Brian Tyree Henry win best supporting but i’m sure they’ll give that Alec Baldwin

Zazie was only in 4 episodes this season and the academy will want to give Marvelous Mrs Maisel some love.

There's buzz for bill hader in guest actor category but I hope donald can pull it out...or katt which has longer odds.

I wanna see Kat get it.

Donald told him he was trying to get him
An Emmy win. It would be awesome if he delivered on that promise and Kat really deserves it.

This year has been a bit crazy for me so I just finished this a week or two ago. Shyt is great 10/10 .
I still find Earn unlikable tho. And the show seemed like a straight forward narrative season 1 but has changed to a more existential examination of topics and the characters and southern backdrop are just the tools to make the points. Took a little while to get used to but I actually prefer it to season 1.

Favorite eps were the barber ep, Paper Boi stuck in the woods and the finale. Basically, whenever Paper Boi is a main focus I enjoy it more. He's a great character. His rapper image is like the opposite of how he really is.

Zazie Beetz in talks to join Joaquin Phoenix in Joker
Fresh off her Emmy nomination for the hit comedy series Atlanta, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that actress Zazie Beetz is in talks to join Joaquin Phoenix in the upcoming Joker. The outlet notes that details are being kept under wraps but Beetz would play “a single mother who catches the interest of the man who will become the Clown Prince of Crime.” Fans will also recognize Beetz for her portrayal of Domino in this year’s Deadpool 2, she’s expected to reprise that role in the X-Force movie as well.

Donald used “Teddy Perkins” as his official submission for Lead Actor

Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Donald Glover is entering the “Atlanta” episode “Teddy Perkins” as his Emmy submission for Best Comedy Actor. This installment aired April 5 and was the sixth episode of the second season for the FX show.

In this segment, Darius (Lakeith Stanfield) goes to a mansion to pick up a piano and is visited by strange pale man Teddy Perkins (Glover in this role instead of as Earnest Marks). Teddy exhibits unsettling behavior and claims the piano’s owner is his brother Benny, who is in a wheelchair and unable to be seen. Later, Teddy holds Darius at gunpoint, handcuffs him and reveals his plan to kill him. Benny bursts into the room and kills both Teddy and himself.

I honestly thought he was going to submit Alligator Man to avoid confusing the voters, plus his portrayal of TP is 90% dramatic, there is very little comedy in this episode.

However given the fact that Glover was able to add levity and gravitas to a character that could have EASILY devolved into sillyness, i see him winning the category.

Brian Tyree Henry (unsurprisingly) used Woods as his Emmy submission for Best Supporting Actor

Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Brian Tyree Henry is entering the “Atlanta” episode “Woods” as his Emmy submission for Best Comedy Supporting Actor. This installment aired April 19 and was the eighth episode of the second season for the FX show.

In this segment, Paper Boi (Henry) sees the ghost of his mother just before Earn (Donald Glover) calls to check on him. He gets into an argument with his girl friend, gets angry and storms off, gets mugged, gets lost in the wood and meets an old man who taunts him.

If there is ANY justice in the world Tyree would be a lock for the win. Even though Barbershop would’ve been the more “comedic” episode to submit, it had zero levity and was really a showcase for Robert S Powell. Woods REALLY cemented Tyree’s Paperboi as a complex and wounded individual. Dealing with the trappings of fame and success he never wante. Its the strongest acting performance of the season (next to Donald in Teddy Perkins) and a fantastic representation of black men suffering the ongoing symptoms of PTSD

Another surprise (in my opinion) Zazie Beatz chose Helen as her submission for best supporting actress

Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Zazie Beetz is entering the “Atlanta” episode “Helen” as her Emmy submission for Best Comedy Supporting Actress. This installment aired March 22 and was the fourth episode of the second season for the FX show.

In this segment, Van (Beetz) and Earn (Donald Glover) leave Atlanta to visit a German festival. She is completely comfortable in this world, but he is not. In disgust, he leaves her behind to really enjoy herself. She almost hooks up with a bartender, but Earn has been secretly following them. Enjoy our recent video chat with Beetz discussing this season and her career.

The reason i was surprised at this submission is because I thought for SURE she would use Champagne Papi. Helen is a better episode than CP but again, CP was a bit more “comedic” in nature and her character was the focus of the story. Helen however, has Beatz’s best scene of the season where she confronts Earn about her dissatisfaction with the status of their relationship. Is it enough to her a win? IDK
