Yeah man, if you weren't mentally strong and knew how to handle yourself growing up in schools with large black populations, you were food. But I make sure I teach my sons not to fukk with anyone because you never know. And nowadays you got mufukkaz shooting up schools and shyt. nah breh, we off dat bullying and over-roasting cats shyt.

On the flip side, you gotta do your best to make sure your kids are good not just physically but emotionally/mentally even more than ever.

Idk in the hood schools get put on lockdown just cause of gun fights right of campus. Hell ppl had guns in the lockers and no one was ever shot.

As a fellow mid-80's Baby, I'm so glad I was never big on urban clothes and instead I was always on the Grand Puba hip-hop preppy look of Bugle Boy, Nautica, Polo, Duckhead, etc. Thus,, I never had clothes problems and they had to respect the fresh. Even as a kid I saw how trendy stuff like Fubu was.

Sadly tho, that era depicted on this episode is exactly what caused uniforms to become mandatory. The pressure is even more now because of the social media era.

For the last 15 years I've bought nothing but Ralph Lauren clothes. But since I've lost a gang of weight this past year, I've been giving it all to needy & deserving HS & HBCU college kids to give them some timeless fresh.

Nothing better than to see a kid's face light up when you give them a weeks worth of fly threads and show them pictures of their favorite artists wearing the exact same gear.

When I was young I had two pair of Lees, besides that

Well I don’t know why you were quick to neg. should’ve said why you were mad cause there is clearly a miscommunication but fukk you too. Can’t be mad because guns were brought on campus. Inner city school and everyone had one. No way for a metal detector on campus cause of the design of the school. Safer with the armed students, enough respect amongst diff neighborhoods and fear of getting caught to actually shoot up the school. If kids with crackhead/incarcerated parents, failing test scores and violent communities get a concelation by having guns in the lockers versus surburban white kids that get three square meals a day, love and attention and a white Christmas who have to fear shootings at school offends you than you suck it from the back. They get a little taste of the life we live when everyday. We aren’t the only ones that should have live in fear.

So if you rewatch the episode a couple of things about Devin stand out. Every time we see Devin on camera he's alone. Earn is mad that he's not popular, but he actually has friends and girls actually like him.

• When Earn gets on the bus he has someone to sit next to when other kids don't.
• In science class Earn has a lab partner. When Devin does the smirk he's sitting by himself with his head down on the desk.
• When Earn needs help he reaches out to Al who is the coolest kid in the grade. Devin has nobody to stick up for him.
• When Earn is in the cafeteria he sits with 2 friends. One white and one black. Showing that not only does he have friends, but he's already able to navigate racial barriers. Where's Devin? Devin is eating lunch at the tail end of the table alone.
• When Earn is running to his bus, the girl gives him a number AND his friend comes to check on him before he gets on the bus. Devin is chased to the bus alone.

This was done purposely and I believe Devin alludes to it in the cafeteria. When he's being bullied in the cafeteria his response is he's always wearing fly shyt. When Earn describes Devin to Al Earn makes a point of stating that Devin's dad is 30 so you know he always has the cool stuff.

Earn, like Devin, falls for the trap of materialism. Cool things don't bring you happiness. Just having a core group of friends in high school (IN LIFE!) that you can talk to, laugh with, run to makes you a millionaire. Earn bought the FUBU to impress his classmates, but they ALREADY liked him. They were already cool with smart Earn. They were already cool with DBZ Earn. But Earn wasn't cool with himself.

Kids don't realize or appreciate the beauty of having friends that don't care about being impressed and like the same "corny" "weird" shyt that you do.

Those kids then turn into 20yr olds posting "new year new me" twitter/instagram/fb posts.

Facts!! I never saw nikkas get checked to see if their gear was fake or authentic when I was in Middle School & High School. But that's probably because most nikkas bought their gear from Bazaars, which sold was mostly fake gear.
