you just want to make moral judgements on parents.

I don’t know what their situation was during the pandemic, not every parent has the means to make up for these things. I am not a conservative bootstrap babble bootlicker like yourself, so I do not pass judgement on someones parenting based on a test score, when all data shows learning loss for children post-covid.

I'm not making moral judgments, I'm making a decision. Sink or Swim.

We can vote, but that doesn't change things overnight. The system can't change overnight. We can't replace teachers overnight.

So I will do everything in my power so my kids don't fail until the system is fixed. Failing is simply not an option, especially if there are black kids that did pass their classes.

All starts at home.

The kids whose parents prepped them for school, did well even if they grew up poor. The kids whose parents gave no fukks? They struggled.

Going to a top shelf school with the best teachers DOES make a difference in terms of college readiness but kids that can't pass basic azz tests now....that's parents not investing time. Saw too many kids that could barely read in 6th, 7th and 8th grade. Not even dyslexic...just couldn't read. They get passed along until middle school or high school then flunk.

They gotta flunk kids in elementary tbh.

This isn't sustainable. We're stacking generations of unhire-able people on top of each other, who will not be able to take care of themselves or achieve anything. Won't qualify to go to college, will try to get various jobs that will start getting phased out by automation, will be blocked from trades by multiple Ethnic groups who are eating that shyt up while we dither...it's over. I hope people recognize that.

For black people to recover from the 2008/2009 recession and make strides only to see it all wiped away like this is sad but...yea.
Again, with the removal of affirmative action an entire generation of black wealth and structure is about to disappear.

They aren't even qualified for pipeline programs much less "boosts"

They're not just unhire-able, they're barely employable.

so we just had a pandemic and the data shows learning loss across the board, but it has nothing to do with the pandemic

okay I’ll take her word for it. I’m sure there’s no agenda in someone who has Conservative in their twitter name :gladbron:

Excelling schools don't make this excuse. Parent engagement isn't the easiest thing to enable for schools. It's more of a luxury, not a mandate.

Schools can only control what they can control. They have to work with the kids where they are... regardless if their parents aren't shyt or not. If kids can only be good at math or any other subject because of their parents, then that means the school and staff really ain't shyt.

I'm tired of this argument where unless the schools do everything perfect then only can we blame or even slightly even address parents.

Wasn't there just a thread in TLR about black parents complaining that kids have too much homework?

All imma say is good luck on y'all's journey in rearing new slaves.
There’s a difference between 30 minutes, and 2-3 hours. There were a lot of white parents in the replies to that tweet who agreed, including conservative parents who said they homeschool, and the entire day is done in 4 hours.

I think it depends on the child. If you know your child is falling behind in a subject, it’s your job as a parent to make sure they catch up. The teacher has multiple classes per day, and can’t always give extra attention.

Kids are failing across the board. But our kids are failing at higher rates.

It's not really an argument. Schools can't force parents to do shyt. So instead of blaming parents on failing kids, the focus always needs to be on what they can control. The rigor of the curriculum, the quality of the administration and teachers, and the culture and climate in the buildings.

Schools have to obviously have good lines of communication and transparency with all stakeholders, but if the things listed above are good, shytty parents will feel a sense of expectation and accountability

We can't have these kinds of discussions without those kinds of posts getting spammed here, and that's probably why these threads don't happen enough :francis:
