He gets top billing but he isn't selling the franchise...they didn't start breaking records until the Rock came on for Fast Five.

If the Rock was a sole reason for Fast & Furious coming back to life, why don't his other films gross $1 billion? GI Joe? Scorpion King? Doom? Journey to the Center of the Earth? Pain & Gain? Hercules? Snitch? Nothing he did touches F&F. Fast & Furious came back because all the stars from the first movie came back to the Franchise and they made the new movies in the style of James Bond/Mission Impossible rather than car racing. The Rock being on it helped. But he aint the only reason.

Edit: Besides your argument was he's the reason for F&F's success which means you're implying he was a big star back then (2011 when the 5th one came out). So why weren't his solo movies back then making $800 million and more?

Before he signed on he had resorted to being a star in childrens films because all his leading roles in anything else were flopping.

The reason fast five got such a bump was because 1) it was by far the best film in the franchise taking it in a new direction and 2) it was the first film to star both vin and rock,who came up at pretty much the same time and were considered the new school of action stars. It was cool to see them together and a massive selling point especially when both their careers weren't in the best place. Like the Expendables draw but for the younger crowd.

He's been smart with his roles since then. Attaching himself to big franchises and safe bets like disaster films or already established properties. Baywatch and jumanji are already established brands just like ff and gi Joe were


And again, xxx 3 just made 346 million which is more than central intelligence made so


But it's an undeniable fact that the fast franchise is vin diesels. Anybody denying that is delusional or hating

But,rock and Statham are getting that spin off so we can see how much it makes. It will be a huge success no doubt,but it ain't gonna hit a billion nor come close.

I'm guessing $500-600 million territory. Nothing to sneeze at

Fast five would have happened with or without rock. Fact is the fourth was a massive success. It was the highest grossing film in the franchise at that point.

I don't expect a guy who dedicates his username to rock to be able to be rational but before fast five rock was not a draw as a movie star. He was struggling mightily.
