Wait
We're feeling really good about a squeak out win against the Cavs? :patrice:
Not so much the win but that we did something and there is a clearer plan in place now to align similiar players of age around Scottie.

I think most expected we were gonna die overpaying OG/Pascal or letting them walk for nothing (both seemed more realistic then Masai/Bobby doing something now)

I'm gonna try to enjoy whatever happens now, but I expect Spicy P is next unless the team goes on some post Rudy Gay trade 2014 run :krs:

I like this trade more and more with each passing day . It’s a Win-win for both Teams- the Knicks desperately needed a smart defensive-minded player with size, length, two-way play, and elite defense to start at wing against elite scoring guards and the raptors needed youth, nba caliber dribbling/ballhandling, speed, scoring and shooting. Achiuwa and Flynn are just throw in players as both are objectively very flawed bench players so we basically traded OG Anunoby for RJ, the pistons 2nd round pick(so it’s basically a 1st round pick) and IQ.

We got a two-way (both good offensively and defensively) skilled all star player with good offensive vision in IQ(fitting initials- pun intended) and a potential late bloomer star in RJ Barrett who’s only 23. And if you combine Scottie barnes elite playmaking skills with IQ shooting/shot selection = improved raptors offense, more productive /effective ball movement and higher scoring games.

RJ Barrett is a decent rebounder, he drives to the rim hard, he’s not afraid of getting dirty in the traffic, can score in the paint (even if his finishing at the rim is mediocre)and has the ability to draw fouls easily, and that’s good thing because he’s a effective, reliable and accurate free throw shooter. He’s got size, skill, length, good offensive instincts, he can pass , got handles, can dribble, can make plays, can move off ball and can shoot. Good offensive awareness and instincts, Solid post game and mid range, average 3-point shot. The problems with him are : inconsistent play, his perimeter defense, his shot selection, his tunnel vision, his selfish/hero ball ways and questionable decision making. But His Work ethic, competitiveness and desire to improve are obvious to see. You can’t deny that.

We needed a PG that could catch and handle the ball, shoot and score and quickley is the one. Schroder is a good playmaker and passer but he is a mediocre ball handler/shooter.

The raps starting lineup got better

The raps bench also got a little deeper and better.

One bird two stones

Starting PG: IQ
Bench PG : Schroder

Starting SG: RJ
Bench SG: Gary Trent Jr

With OG out, who is the best perimeter defender on the raps now? The primary defensive option against opposing wings/guards? Who can handle tough defense matchups on this squad? Scottie is great defensively because he plays closer to the paint, which allows him to read plays and move over to protect the rim, block shots, intercept inside passes, rebound and regain ball possession to counterattack on the transition. I don’t want Scottie to change defensive roles and chase opposing players off screen on the perimeter. I don’t trust Siakam, IG and RJ to be effective defensively as shutdown guys at wing. Siakam is too lanky, he has the length but doesn’t have the size(not big/huge enough :dame: ) to really take away time, room and space from shooters/passers and he doesn’t have the defensive instincts/awareness /positioning to properly disrupt the pick n roll. Quickley is has good defensive awareness but he’s too undersized/small/soft to guard wings/guards. RJ is average at best defensively. He’s not bad at it when he’s willing and able to do it but defense clearly ain’t one of his strengths.

The Raps made a underrated trade that could be a great one if everything goes right. At first sight it looks like a equal trade, but OG was a impending and unrestricted free agent this summer. He is in his prime right now and has definitely reached his peak as a player- this is is ceiling, he won’t improve and get better. He’s 26, soon to be 27, what you see from him is what you will get from him for the next 5-6 years. Thanks for the memories OG though. You were a good soldier for the raptors. But the raps might be blessed with two all stars on their starting five.

Both Quickley and Barrett are still under 25 years of age and both have room for potential significant career improvement and player development.A few seasons from now, this trade could potentially look like highway robbery.

Toronto traded an injury-prone, occasional 3-point shooter, defense first/one dimensional wing with mediocre dribbling and ballhandling for the most underrated/quietly productive PG in the league who will have the opportunity to get much more playing time here than in NY and a young underachieving player with late blooming superstar potential.

Let’s hope for the best!

Yup OG is what he is a guy who can't dribble, plays good defense, injury prone and can knock down teh odd 3. Will give you 15-17 ppg and good defense that's it.

Quickley and barrett are both young and have not reached their best version. Even for all the faults with barrett he's only 22 and is a 18-20 ppg scorer.
