Off of the base purse, he received a 64/36 split....but he also agreed to fight at 155 which Canelo probably tossed him a few extra stacks for doing so.

lil g isn't, so they might end up going to purse bid where he will get 10-20% due to purse bids always go 80/20, 90/10 in favor of the Champion:manny:

Purse bids bruh. At the point you're dealing witht he promoters/advisers making the big decision on money. One of the biggest reason why KKK/Chickenson (BAWK BAWK!!!) never happened was becuz Duva had to leave the table at the purse bid. KKK woulda got raped.

If Canelo doesn't sign to face him, it will go to purse bid, where Canelo will receive at LEAST 80% of the entire pot to fight lil g at 160.

Basically, either lil g is gonna get a nice payday by agreeing to 155 OR he's gonna get killed at the negotiating table and bring home barely more than he made against Lemieux:yeshrug:

On second thought I don't think he is going to fight him at 160 i think he is fleecing these media nikkas so Oscar and his team could look like the bad guys when they hit team 97k with "155 or no fight :umad: "

i never cared to know this part of the sport but i guess its time to educate myself on it:francis:.

so if canelo doesnt sign the wbc will come in and negotiate for both parties? both 160 and the champ gets the bigger cut?

Yes.

  • Canelo and Golovkin will have 30 days to reach & sign a contract to fight next.
  • If a contract is NOT signed by both parties and returned to the WBC within 30 days, a purse bid will be ordered.
  • A purse bid means that any promotional company can bid on the fight, and the highest bidder will receive the "rights" to the fight.
  • A purse bid also means that the WBC Champion (since they are fighting for the WBC Championship) and his team gets anywhere from 80%-90% of the bid that was offered, and the challenger gets 10-20% split at max.

So basically, we're gonna end up seeing how bad lil g REALLY wants the WBC Championship, or if he just wants to fight Canelo for the $$$:mjpls:

If he just want the WBC Championship, he will receive his wish of the fight at the full 160 limit, and he will receive 10-20% of the pot:mjlol:

If he just wants to fight Canelo, he will agree to the fight at 155 and probably receive anywhere between 30-40% of the pot:obama:

Choice will be his:demonic:

I think from my memory the WBC's mandate is a 70/30 purse bid in favor of the champion and if it goes to purse bid there is no weight negotiation, it would be 160. Plus the winner of the purse bid gets to pick location.

The WBC instituted a new rule for Wilder-Povetkin and I wonder if it would apply here as well (90% of the pot is split 70/30 to the champion and the remaining 10% goes to the winner).

My opinion is I bet this fight is negotiated or doesn't happen. A purse bid doesn't benefit the magnitude of the fight. Canelo will have so many revenue streams available, it would be in his best interest to evaluate those and then give GGG his money after GB really knows how much Canelo can get himself.

I'm a casual boxing fan, so bear with me. Canelo is the WBC MW champion, which is 155-160. If they're fighting for the MW title, GGG should be able to weigh anywhere between 155-160. Why is Canelo asking for a catchweight in a title fight? I could understand if both fighters are coming from different divisions and they agree to meet half way. But in this case they're both MWs. And from what I've heard, they're both the same size. Is Canelo trying to drain GGG with the weight cut? Why is he asking for a catch-weight? They're fighting for the MW title, so they should both be able to weigh anywhere between 155-160.
