The New Day's Babyface Turn Will Add Momentum To Merchandise Sales
Even before a recent babyface turn at WWE Roadblock, The New Day was a merchandiser’s dream come true. With colorful personalities and catchphrases to match its neon-colored wardrobe, it didn’t take long for the power of positivity to empower WWE concession stands worldwide.
It was apparent that the movement was real when fans in Europe
voiced their displeasure when no New Day t-shirts were on sale during WWE’s annual tour overseas.
Even as heels, the New Day’s merchandise was in demand. Now that the stable has have fully embraced its popularity, there’s no end to the potential brought on by a larger audience of parents and children—the same audience that is already accustomed to wearing brightly colored John Cena gear in droves.
Fresh off a dramatic unveiling at WWE Roadblock, The New Day’s new “Booty-O’s” cereal box/t-shirt is the top selling t-shirt on
WWEShop.com. The commemorative item currently retails at $34.99. The New Day also lays claim to three of the top-ten selling t-shirts on the website, with the remaining two listed at $24.99.
With John Cena out of action, The New Day can corner the market on sales of kid-friendly merchandise, from t-shirts to unicorn horns (currently the second-highest selling item on
WWEShop.com) to cereal boxes.
Further adding to the stable’s marketability is how popular it is with older, hardcore fans. These days, The New Day is universally revered in traditional wrestling cities like Toronto, Boston and New York, which represent hostile territories for more contemporary babyfaces like Cena and Roman Reigns.
In describing an entertaining promo at WWE SummerSlam this past yeasr, Jason Powell of
Prowrestling.net encapsulated the New Day’s entire run in a nutshell, writing “there were boos initially, but there were plenty of cheers by the end. [The Barclays Center] did the ‘New Day Rocks’ chant…”

With such a wide-ranging fanbase, and a limited roster of healthy babyfaces, it’s plausible that The New Day may have the best-selling merchandise of 2016. At the very least, that deserves a golf-clap.
