Dear Rick,
As a valued member of our team, I wanted to let you know about the positive step we took today for the future of the Hawks organization by agreeing in principle with Lloyd Pierce to become our next head coach.
We have one goal and that is to bring an NBA Championship to the city of Atlanta. In Golden State, we were able to do that by building through the draft, developing a young, talented core and creating a culture that values hard work, development and relentless effort. That is what we are going to do here.
When it came to hiring a new coach for our team, it was important to us to find a coach who can connect to the young players already on our roster and the ones that we will draft in upcoming years while instilling the culture and high standards that lead to success. And that is why we are so excited to have Lloyd leading our basketball team.
Lloyd is respected throughout the NBA and has developed into one of the top assistants in the league over the past few seasons in Philadelphia after previous stops in Cleveland, Golden State and Memphis. He has an extensive background in player development, having worked closely with All-Stars such as LeBron James, Steph Curry and Joel Embiid, and we were impressed by his basketball acumen and vision for leading a young team.
Today was a great day for the Hawks organization and we are excited to begin working with Lloyd immediately in preparation for the 2018-19 campaign. We have already started working out draft-eligible players in preparation for the 2018 NBA Draft on June 21st where we will have four picks in the top 34. Free agency will then quickly follow in July. I’m excited about our future and I look forward to connecting with you along the way as we begin our journey to a championship.
