He gets a pass for the win loss record from me for last season and next season. That's it. He needs to draft a Ben Simmons or Donovan Mitchell type in THIS draft. Collins is nice but he's not gonna be a superstar. We need a franchise changing star from this draft and Schlenk needs to get it right. I'm hoping he does but some of his public comments have me like :gucci:

That’s why I want Michael porter. He’s the only person I see with franchise changing type of game. Maybe trae young if he don’t bust.

Highly unlikely. Simmons is their pg
Simmons is their PG but this series shows they need a guard who can penetrate to the basket. Schroeder fits that. Fultz fits that too but i think they want Fultz to come off the bench similar to Harden in OKC. Fultz and Simmons game don't really mesh well together.

I know I'm just trying to understand someone's logic (because I've heard other people mention Klay here as a possibility).

-Klay would be entering a losing situation

-Would be asked to be the #1 option & face of the franchise (which he isn't)

Outside of getting a check and his relationship with Schlenk, why come here? It just doesn't make sense to me
You don’t think he wants to be a #1?
Those are my reasons for thinking he’ll come. The chance to be a #1 and his relationship with Schlenk

What about Klay Thompson or his personality makes you think he'd want to take the pressure of being the #1 and face of a franchise? He's currently the third option on a championship team and gets little to no criticism if he plays poorly. I just don't know why he'd give that up because he kinda knows Schlenk and we can max him out. BTW, he's not a max player, he's a great shooter and defender but he's not a #1 option. I just don't see why he'd want to come here

What about Dennis for the philly's 10th pick? We traded Teague for the 12 pick a few years ago. Schroeder is a good fit for Philly and they might not wanna add another young guy to the mix.

Dennis isn't worth a top 10 pick. I'd argue he's barely worth a late first round pick. Dennis is at best a mediocre PG in today's NBA. Mediocre from 3, god awful on 3, questionable decision making off the court...id be cool with trading Dennis but the return wouldn't be good, he needs to rehab his play because he's no better than the 15-20th best PG in the NBA

Dennis is worth a lot more than that. But I get it. His play just wasnt inspiring but hes talented and had a solid season for us. Too many times he got his Teague on and was a disappearing act while dominating at other times

The Hawks needed a leader last year and he didn't step up. He gave minimum effort on defense, was terrible from 3 and has inflated stats due to his usage being at a career high. I give Baze hell but he was much better than Schroeder was last season. If the Hawks could find a trade partner I'd move on from him but he's damaged goods right now. I don't think he had a solid season especially considering his role on the team and his overall performance

ATLANTA, GA – The Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club today reached an agreement in principle with Lloyd Pierce to become the team’s new head coach. Pierce will be the 13thfull-time head coach in Hawks history. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not announced. “As we set out to find a new head coach for our team, it was critically important to find a dynamic teacher who could connect with and develop our young core while instilling the culture and high standards we feel are necessary in a successful program,” said Hawks General Manager and Head of Basketball Operations Travis Schlenk. “Lloyd Pierce checks every box, and we couldn’t be more excited to have him leading the Atlanta Hawks into the future.”Pierce, 42, comes to the Hawks following five years as an assistant coach with the Philadelphia 76ers, who finished this past season third in the Eastern Conference with a 52-30 mark and advanced to the Eastern Conference Semifinals. “We are excited to start a new chapter of Hawks Basketball with Lloyd as head coach of our team,” said Hawks’ Principal Owner and Chair of the Board of Directors Tony Ressler. “Each part of our organization, from our ownership group to basketball to business operations, is aligned, and we are all committed to building a first-class organization that is working to bring a championship to Atlanta.” Pierce joined the Sixers after two seasons with Memphis, where he was Assistant Coach-Player Development, helping lead the Grizzlies to back-to-back playoff appearances and the Western Conference Finals in 2013. “This is a day I’ve been working towards for a long time and it’s an honor to be the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks,” Pierce said. “I have great respect for Travis and strong belief in his plan to bring a championship to the city of Atlanta. After spending time with ownership, it’s clear they have a deep investment in and commitment to making this a model organization. This opportunity is a perfect fit for me, and I’m eager to get started.” Pierce spent the 2010-11 season as an Assistant Coach with the Golden State Warriors after three years as Assistant Coach-Player Development with Cleveland (2007-10), where the Cavaliers made three playoff appearances and a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2009. Prior to his NBA coaching career, Pierce was an Assistant Coach at his alma mater, Santa Clara University, from 2002-07. The San Jose, CA native played four seasons for the Broncos, where he teamed with two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash. Pierce graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Management. He and his wife, Melissa, were married in August, 2015.

I'm not sure what to think. If he's great on player development that's great but he's a first time coach so as far as what we should expect we should see Prince, Collins and the rest of the young guys on the roster and who we draft to be elevated in how they are developed. A big question is will he be here when we start winning or is he a stop gap coach? This team is 2-3 years away from being relevant but fortunately for him he won't be judged on wins/losses to start his career
