If he can really get down to 135 he needs to do so. Best chance he has to live up to his potential, he just doesn't have the mindset to fight at a high level at 140 or 147

this is his claim to fame. steamrolling little guys. he is too big, strong, and athletic for 130-35 pounders. pretty sure he cant get down to 135 though.

depends...
If it's dealt out when the champion has a long term injury it can mean something

if that's not the case then it's usually a "keep everybody happy" gesture...
WBC is in good terms with Haymon and don't want to change that but they need that Canelo vs GGG money. So while Charlo has to wait for that shot they give him not only the mandatory spot but also a belt from generosity... Pretty much that's how I imagine this.

Charlo might get a shot first through the IBF though, he is ranked number 3 by the IBF... If Golovkin gets stripped and Jacobs ends up fighting BJS then Charlo can go for the IBF belt with Derevyanchenko
Thanks for the details, these boxing titles with its rules can be very confusing. It's also crazy how fighters(Champions) can hold up other fighters if they are injured, suspended or ducking.

I've not done much research on the WBC Interim championship that Jermall Charlo won. Does the WBC Interim championship have any weight?

it can lead to someone becoming full WBC champion...thats how GGG became WBC middleweight champion..he won the interim belt off Rubio to be the mandatory..Cotto didnt want to face him so he dropped that belt..Canelo won it in their fight and didnt want to face him...so he dropped...2 lineal champs disgracing themselves...then GGG was awarded full recognition

Mell with the interim belt..if GGG drops it or is stripped for whatever reason he'd be the full WBC Middleweight champion

interim belts have a purpose but the end goal of them is to have who was the champion and who was the interim champ face off

its subjective. yes for automatic stars like Canelo and GGG it means something because they will make them champ anyway. for someone like Charlo its not going to mean much. GGG can drop that belt and Charlo can become the full champ and he still will be fighting no-names. Charlo's team hopes the belt can leverage a GGG match but really GGG is too big to be leveraged by an interim title of the belt he already holds.

It is what it is

out of every elements of pro boxing, organizing bodies are what I like the least

Like... boxing never gonna be a fully organized, centrally controlled sport, it's just not in the nature of it. That is both good and bad... It's bad because there is favoritism, unfairness, corruption, shytloads of titles and etc... and it is good because stories and characters which couldn't happen or exist in other sports ruled by a centralized body.

My problem with the organizations that they don't add anything for the good part of the chaos and I can only connect the negativums of the sport to them. We don't really have fukkeries, stories and characters because of organizing bodies, we have favoritism, corruption and the inflation of the meaning of a "world title" from them which are less romantic characteristics of the sport.

but... I guess it stays this way, without one, the other wouldn't exist... :francis::yeshrug:

nikkas in here saying Broner is now a gatekeeper. I dont recall fight threads being made with 20+ pages, or nikkas tuning in for true gatekeepers like Hank Lundy:lupe:
Skill does not = popularity breh. He ain''t a gatekeeper yet though. He's on Vargas level.

So you're saying Triple G is a paper WBC champion? Strange slander for you Pat but I agree. Likewise, when he fought the person who had the belt before him he scored a draw. You're right he is a paper WBC champ :wow:

Triple G/Charlo would be nice if it ever happened.
