I was just browsing through some of the recent youtube videos on CNN's page and came across this.

So obviously I decided to watch a clip of his act to decide for myself if he was really being anti-semetic.

I actually found this to be an interesting and somewhat funny commentary on the world and how media and schools portray history to us. I do believe that there is a lot of truth in the overall message he is trying to convey. I think his message is that the suffering of the Jews is always at the forefront (as pushed by media) while suffering of other people's is either ignored or made to seem less important or insignificant. Including "modern day slavery" as he says in that short clip of his act.

Any thoughts?

Anti semitism is on the rise around the world a line needs to be drawn and it has been. Europe has these laws for a reason. France has had a long history with anti-semitism as well.

Do I think he's a bigot? Who the hell knows. I haven't read enough about him. Props for posting his work.

I'm sure the usual cheerleaders will come in calling for the deaths of Jews for every reason under the Sun.

I appreciate the insight. I gotta be honest and admit that I'm not in tune with what's happening with the French culture. All I'm going off is that short clip of his act. I guess he is gaining popularity over in France, and the photos of the soccer player and Tony Parker doing the gesture similar to the Hitler one was kind of alarming.

I think that the message in his act is one that is controversial as it is a very serious topic and there will be people who don't understand the exact meaning he is conveying and will take it in another direction to support their own racist, anti-semetic views/opinions. So in that way, I can see how it is dangerous to get up on stage and express how he sees topics like this. I'm not sure if he should be the blame for people taking his act in a racist direction though. I don't think he is racist himself, but I don't doubt that he likes the attention he is getting for this controversial set.

American media trying and failing to understand French culture :lolbron:

:yeshrug: and call him a bigot and anti-semite...

Wookay..

According to who? MEMRI? B'nai Brith? Jewish Congress?

:camby:
How are the French people taking to his act? Does anyone even care for it, either way (bad or good)? Are you French or live in France?

They made it seem as though he is gaining popularity and this could be a dangerous thing for the youth of France. I think there is a certain truth to what he is saying, but at the same time, you have to realize that it is a comedy show and jokes aren't meant to be taken seriously or literal. There is always embellishment in a comedy act dealing with topics of this nature.

The thing is that it only applies to one group. Go search French attitude towards Muslims and Gypsies, and what was being said when gays were protesting in favor of gay marriage.

Only one group is really taboo.

I have Algerian/Moroccan/West African friends and been put on to him through them. They love his comedy, real and hard hitting. Key word COMEDY. Now we have the usual suspects trying to smear him and sum him up in one or two words to fit their narrative. Its tiresome and corny. Its a typical American approach to anything they do not understand.

Read a pitiful post on Deadspin around this subject.

So basically the media will gladly go after this comedian, when there are people who are attacking immigrants and gays but will not be mentioned as such a problem?

So this pretty much sounds like it reinforces the feelings that I would guess that the comedian has. To me, it seems like anything is fair game in stand up comedy, as long as it is funny. Pretty much all groups get their fair share of jokes aimed towards them by comics of all different backgrounds, in my opinion. But now that someone is cracking on the Jews, and the comic is not Jewish, it is a problem?

I think this could also be used as a good example of American media using race to stir up some attention to a non story.

France is a xenophobic shythole. I applaud him going at them.

Those hypocrites play nice internationally but their treatment of immigrants and 2nd/3rd/4th generation French minorities is a disgrace.

This has been in the french news media for quite sometime, but i wasn't sure if this board was mature enough for a topic like this. The dude is pretty good, his main MO is stating that Jews have they're message pushed at the forefront of all media, whilst the sufferings of blacks and others are ignored. There is definitely some truth to his overall message though.
